POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Through this set, I wanted to explore the roots of Amapiano: Deep House.

Amapiano is often seen as an evolution of South African Deep House, blending its deep, soulful sound with elements of jazz, kwaito, and traditional African percussion with a slower tempo.

South African Deep House came during a time when music was a powerful way to express yourself, connect with others, and find a sense of freedom during apartheid.

Pioneers like Vinny Da Vinci and DJ Christos played a huge role in shaping the South African Deep House scene. And of course, an honorary mention to Frankie Knuckles, whose influence helped shape House music worldwide.

This set explores South African Deep House, from the more soulful sounds of Chronical Deep and The Godfathers of Deep House, to more experimental sounds from artists like Kudbeu, Dwson, Aquatone (Da Capo), and many more.

Last extract of my last set for @88_house_of_friends where I focused on Afro House and Afro Tech.

Little story: Afro House is a subgenre of House music that first emerged in South Africa, especially around Johannesburg and Pretoria during the late ’80s. Pioneers like Vinny Da Vinci began blending the original Chicago House sound with African rhythms: percussion, mélodies and basslines. Later, it was popularized on the international scene with artist like Black Coffee, Shimza, Da Capo, Caiiro and more.

A few decades later, around 2010, Afro Tech evolved as a new branch of the genre, infusing Afro House with more techno-driven elements. Artists such as Black Motion, Osunlade, Shimza and Kususa helped shape and popularize this genre.

Tracks played are from Caiiro, Idd Aziz, Demaya, Suffocate SA, Eyama, Argento Dust, Bun Xapa, Shimza.
