I’m proud to announce something I’ve worked on quietly over the past year in collaboration with @phaidonpress and @newmuseum, ‘ARTHUR JAFA: I AM TONY’ exhibition catalog. The catalog accompanies his largest museum survey to date, opening this Fall on September 26th at The New Museum, curated by Massimiliano Gioni (@massimilianogioni). I’ve been a longtime admirer of AJ’s work, first after an old friend sent me his show studio interview, then coincidentally when my mentor and big sis @michaelaangeladavis invited me to his exhibition at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise in Harlem in 2018. That’s when I became immediately enamored and understood by his work. Thank you so much AJ for selecting me to work on this, we finally got to work on something tangible together. Immense gratitude to Massimiliano, the entire New Museum team, Phaidon Press and their MVP Maia for getting us over the finish line, and of course the entire team at Arthur Jafa Studio. Usually pride shows up for me after the work is already out in the world. This one was different. Every step of the way I felt it in real time, not just in the making but in looking back at everything I’ve created with @saintheron over the years and being tasked with creating one singular home for it all to live in. I’ve spent seven of Saint Heron’s thirteen years behind the scenes grinding with this team. What began as a website, a place where I felt seen since I was 19, has grown into a second family and a cornerstone of my professional life. 𝗘𝗻𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮 is a fully immersive digital experience tracing Saint Heron’s many forms: publishing house, creative agency, design lab, library, archive, living record. Designed as an index, a portal, and a world of its own, the site gathers objects, films, music, web design, scenic design, printed matter, and the complete Small Matter object rolodex. A 5 year journey of love, intention, honor, and reflection. Amaza’s story reflects so much of my own creative journey. The path of a Black woman working across disciplines, shaping worlds through imagination and skill, and carrying the weight of many identities while still choosing to make with clarity and intention feels deeply familiar. And within that, the experience of loving another woman and building space from that love, allowing intimacy and partnership to become a foundation for creative expansion mirrors my own path in a way that feels grounding. Her life shows how creativity, identity, and love can move together and open room for new possibilities. Soft launching my public speaking abilities with @solangeknowles and @saintheron 🥹. On October 13th, I sat beside my favorite collaborators, Shantel (@thetrillfairy ) and Solange, for the announcement of her scholar-in-residence role at USC Thornton School of Music (our girl is a professor 👩🏾‍🏫!). This day was extremely grounding for me as I listened to young undergrads reflect onto me words that felt like Deja vu post-discussion. Hearing young women who looked and sounded like me ten years ago share how and why it means so much to have a curriculum brought in by Solange and @saintheron at a PWI speaks to the core of the essential need for expansion beyond the boundaries we’ve been fed across many disciplines. Especially within academia. The forthcoming work and opportunity made possible by Solange, @jasonkingsays, and @uscthornton to come in 2027 is necessary and exciting to play a part in. Cheers to the work of @saintheron cementing itself in the canon of academia and musical curation. You know we been doin this! @michaelaangelad and I did a thing! Well, we’ve done many things together. I had the honor of designing the cover for my mentor, big sis, and auntie in taste! memoir ‘tenderheaded,’ published by @simonandschuster and edited by @yahdon. I’ve known Michaela since I was 19, though I later realized we first met when I was about 16 years old at Career Day at the High School of Fashion Industries (@fashionhighnyc) where I attended. We’ve crossed paths more than once and were truly destined to build the connection we have today. From designing decks for The Hair Tales when it was just a conversation series on the grounds of AFROPUNK, to tote bags adorned with vintage Ebony ads and 70’s hair ads, to leading design for her Hulu show of the same name, our creative journey has been full circle. I’m so happy we’ve collaborated again on something so near and dear, a memoir rooted in vulnerability and poetry in its purest form. I’m beyond grateful to have been part of your journey as an artist, curator, image activist, Black woman lover, and now, writer and author (although you’ve always been one). I love you deeply and am so proud to experience you anew through the pages you poured your all into.
