Hi! Dailen here! I like Blue Objects. 🌀

I've been about a million things, and right now I'm a musician, DJ, sound artist, researcher, educator, and third-space organizer!

I think about spaces for people almost as much as I think about sounds, having helped create some local nice zones for people to connect in.

Currently I'm running a tiny sound school that lives in a slightly-less-tiny collectively-run venue / sound-focused community center. They are @__clubclub__ and @pyxis.pvd , respectively.

The slides you see now are things I've been doing or thinking about.

[ Slides 7 & 10 ]: I love "The Heat" by Toni Braxton

[ Slide 13] : I've been looking into how instruments are built, with a keen interest in woodwinds! I've actually made a couple mangey flutes that I adore deeply. Technically a u-lock is kinda like a sideblown xun with a single tone hole.

[ Slide 16] : I've been playing with how the apps we use everyday might be sound sources in performance or grotesque fonts of inspiration. I have a favorite IG glitch that continues to play the audio from an ad over anything you look at in the advertisers page. In that video I'm looking for fun rhythms and accompaniments. by @caloric

Friday, 9/25, 9 - midnight: we’re having another CLUB RIFFRAFF DANCE PARTY! 🪩🍸❤️🔥

These are always a dream, and this month we’ve got a couple of occasions to celebrate: Riffraff 2.0 has been kicking for three wonderful years AND Lucas is turning a very ripe old age! You do not need to care about either of those things to come dance with us tho!

Perfect music and vibes all night from Caloric and DJ Mood Swing! Perfect drinks flowing! Lights downs, furniture moved, and a packed little dance floor! Probably the only dance party where you can snag a few good books on the way out!

Thanks to all of you we made history - we got Divestment from Genocide on the ballot in Providence!

Now we have to make divestment the law of the city, and that means Getting Out The Vote. We have until November 3, so let’s get started.

We’re launching GOTV this Saturday, August 8, from 6 - 9, in the Riff Raff courtyard. Join us to find out how you can be part of this history-making campaign.

This year I:

- (briefly) taught at a college
- got my driver's license
- completed a full course of EMDR
- started reading books again
- began learning the flute
- presented sound art at a museum
- played a bike game I've dreamt about a decade ago
- helped shoot a tiny movie
- watched my baby cousin get married

I also did things that were *actually* important, like learning to repair and maintain important relationships, how to be proud of myself, and how to find connection where I previously thought there was none.

I can't overstate how each of the above was only possible due to those connections -- the care, generosity, kindness and guidance of people I feel deeply connected to.

Each year is comprised of billions of tiny moments, and I'm really thankful to everyone who shared even slivers of theirs with me.

I hope to see you next year, too. by @caloric
