Our national public lands belong to ALL. OF. US. Yet, this administration is gutting the very agencies that protect the places we love...setting the stage for privatization and pay-to-play access.

While you can rebuild the White House (sort of), once these lands are gone, we don’t get them back.

🟩 Stand up for public lands. Speak out before they’re sold off. Link in bio.

It’s time to speak up for our National Forests.

Head to Calwild.org/roadless to make a personalized comment, the most powerful way to take action.

The deadline is October 6th.

If you want to learn more about the Roadless Rule and its many merits, check out the letter to the Trump Administration by @ben.a.goldfarb and @harvardeelp, available at the link in Ben’s bio. This letter, rigorously researched and cited, helped me understand the benefits of the Roadless Rule to ecosystems, water quality, and fire prevention. The facts referenced in this video are largely drawn from this letter, the USDA website, and the USFS website. by @calwildorg

A surprising number of people who are mad about the Roadless Rule want things it already protects, like access to public lands, clean water, and the ability to fight wildfires when needed.

We’re not here to shame anyone. Comments like these simply come from a lack of information. But we have the remedy: verifiable information backed by research.

🚨 The Comment Period Ends October 6th 🚨

Comment “Roadless” and we’ll DM you links to two ways you can comment on the rescission of the Roadless Rule:

1) Our comment builder that makes it easy to write a substantive comment that we will submit on your behalf.

2 ) The Federal Register to submit your comment directly to the USDA. by @calwildorg

Governor @GavinNewsom has signed SB 1268, the Outdoors for All Act!🌲🎉

Thank you to the Governor and to the communities, advocates, organizations, partners, and Californians that CalWild worked alongside to help bring SB 1268 across the finish line.

SB 1268 makes California’s commitment to equitable outdoor access lasting by codifying the Outdoors for All initiative at the California Natural Resources Agency.
This milestone belongs to everyone who believes our parks, trails, beaches, open spaces, and natural places should be accessible and welcoming.
Now we want to hear from you:
Share what outdoors for all means to you in the comments.

Want to hear something inspiring? 99%

That’s the percentage of public comments opposing the proposed rewrite of the US Forest ServiceTravel Management Rule (TMR)… the 2005 policy that protects California’s national forests from unrestricted motorized vehicle access.

Not 60%, not 75%, but 99%. The same percentage of opposition we are seeing to the opposition of the federal government’s attempt to rescind the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule.

The public has spoken loudly, clearly, and nearly unanimously that public lands, national forests, all the wild spaces we hold sacred deserve to be protected…regardless of what the federal administration is trying to push.

Every comment submitted through CalWild, every share, every person who took five minutes out of their day to say “these places matter”...that’s what 99% looks like in action. And that’s exactly what it looks like when democracy is working the way it’s intended to. Your voice is essential to protecting these places.

The TMR exists because unmanaged motorized vehicle use causes real, lasting damage, specifically to watersheds, to wildlife habitat, to the trails and wild places that millions of Californians depend on. Weakening it puts things like recreation, wildlife protection, and drinking water at increased risk.

The agency may still move forward. They have before, even against overwhelming public opposition. But the record is clear, and so is where the American public stands.

Thank you for being part of the 99% who agree these policies are important. We’re not done!

Thank you @western.priorities for the analysis!

Happy Public Lands Day! On this day, as many of us volunteer to take care of our shared landscapes, it’s a reminder that there was a time when Republicans and Democrats joined together to protect public lands.
The Wilderness Act of 1964 passed 373 to 1. The Endangered Species Act passed 355 to 4 with a Republican president signing it into law. Because all agreed that public lands and wildlife across our country are worth protecting.
Public lands are for all of us. Hunters, anglers, hikers, families…people across every political line agree. The data backs it up. The history backs it up.

Our favorite places often feel permanent, like they will be there forever. Theoretically, they should be.

But permanence is a choice. Right now, this administration is making that choice without you through a multitude of attacks on our national forests.

The Roadless Rule has protected nearly 58.5 million acres of national forest from road construction, logging, and industrial development for over 20 years. In California alone, it safeguards the backcountry watersheds that feed our rivers, the old-growth corridors that wildlife depend on, and the wild places that draw millions of people outdoors every year.

The rule, and our forests, are under serious threat.

Proposed changes to Forest Service policy would open these areas to new roads and resource extraction…quietly, bureaucratically, in ways that don’t make headlines until the chainsaw is already running.

Over 600,000 people have already submitted public comments in defense of the Roadless Rule. The comment period is still open, but it won’t be for long. Visit the link in our bio to add your support for the Roadless Rule…it takes less than five minutes to help protect your favorite place.

Kind of chic to know the difference between a Wilderness Study Area and Wilderness.

Kind of chic to submit a public comment before a deadline.

Kind of chic to care about where your drinking water comes from.

Kind of chic to have a favorite trail.

Kind of chic to know what the Roadless Rule is.

Kind of chic to show up for the places that have always shown up for you.

Our public lands are vast, beautiful, and diverse…they are what unite us all as Californians. Kind of chic to fight for them.
