For the past 8 days I have been hiking across Illinois on the River to River trail through the Shawnee National Forest. 161 miles across with roughly 30,000 feet of elevation change. Mason and I trekked on through various stretches of track, and at the 85 mark, we parted ways. solo now, i continued on for the remaining 76 miles. due to the dry conditions there were many times that a key water source was dried up, forcing forward movement in hopes for something usable later. Experiences like these -if non other than experience- give new perspectives as well as opportunities for great self reflection and meditation, which in my view are key components to self betterment and empathic relationships. If anyone is considering hiking this and wants planning insight I’d be happy to help!

20.June.2026 Took a short trip to hometown and found out the stories I heard as a child about wild parakeets in Chicago were true. So @kirstenh.01 and I set out on a mission to find them. It took a few days. Absolutely lovely birds. I also witnessed an American Robin eating a young bird. Something I’ve never seen before or even really heard of. I think it’s due to over population and a lack of food sources in the urban setting. It’s a pretty sad concept to me.

04-16.June.2026 I think part of why I love this so much is because nothing is guaranteed. You can have the perfect conditions, lighting, background, but no bird. Or the bird that’s taken you days to find but terrible conditions that my camera just has no chance against. And sometimes the birds watch back, but that’s the only flock I’m okay with watching me.

Had a short session before work today with no expectations. This boulder problem has probably been the longest mental battle yet. Trying to stick a move over and over again with no progress just killed my motivation over time. But I think it’s one of the best out there so I needed to do it personally. I learned a lot from this one.
