The world lost one of its most beautiful souls Friday. 💛

This is Sharette “Rette” Alophous — 51 years old, a loving mother, and part of my family for over 21 years. My parents hired her when I was just 3 months old, and from that moment, she became family. Before hiring her, my dad called her previous employer, who told him, “You have gold in your hands, and you’d be a fool to waste it.” Every word of that was true.

To me, Rette was a second mom. The name “Rette” actually came from me not being able to pronounce “Sharette” as a kid — and now everyone calls her that. If you knew my family growing up, you knew Rette. She was the one who picked us up from school, took us to Six Flags, the movies, or just out to play. She was always there — rain, snow, or shine — even taking me to the hospital (in a blizzard) when my little brother was born.

When she had her own son, she brought him to our house every day and raised him alongside us. He didn’t call her “mom” — he called her “Rette,” too. That’s the kind of love she gave — pure, constant, and selfless.

On Friday, Rette passed after a battle with cancer. Anyone who knew her knows she was the kindest, warmest, most genuine soul you could ever meet. She filled every room with light, laughter, and love.

If you’ve read this far, please take this with you: live like Rette.
Be kind. Be open. Be free. Smile more. Love without fear. Accept everyone for who they are. You never know how much joy a simple act of kindness can bring someone.

Tell your loved ones you love them. Hug them. Call them. Life is short — make it full of love while you can.
