Some exciting things are in the works—but I’m still not over (and probably never will be) this Focus desk and Halcyon V2 chair I made for the incredible @ravbryant.

If you’re a designer or collector looking to elevate a space with custom, heirloom-quality pieces, feel free to reach out. I’d love to collaborate on something truly unique.

A little check-in from the other side of a difficult summer.

I’ve been pretty quiet here for the past few months. Truthfully, this summer has been hard. Both personally and professionally, the last four or five months have challenged me in ways I hadn’t anticipated, and at times it’s been difficult to find the energy and motivation to keep moving forward.

I’ve been trying to give myself a little more grace lately. Spending more time outside, reconnecting with my love for ultra-distance mountain biking, and making space for the things that remind me who I am outside of my work.

When you pour so much of yourself into something you’ve built, it can be hard to separate your own sense of worth from how things are going. That’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately.

Camber is still here, and so am I. My passion for designing and making furniture hasn’t gone anywhere, even if I’ve needed to step away from it a little more than usual.

Fall and winter have always been my most creative and productive seasons. There’s something about the quieter, colder months that makes me want to retreat into the studio and make things. I’m looking forward to finding that rhythm again.

Anyway, I’m still here. Just figuring some things out, riding my bike, running, and doing my best to keep moving forward.

Thanks for being here. taken in Home by @camber.atelier

DESIGN/OBJECT/ART conversation

Saturday, September 12th from 3-4pm we're excited to host three incredibly talented artists/designers/makers of stunning objects: @iriseichenberg , @scottklinkerdesign , and @camber.atelier for a discussion in the store.

Scott has a new book, Fine Design: A Studio Guide to Remixing Design, Art, Craft, and Industry, he'll be showing off; Iris also has a newly published book, This Sketchbook Belongs To: (which is beautiful), and Kyle has a beautiful chair (upstairs @bowerbird.home.detroit ).

They'll be talking about process, materials, the use of your hand, and whatever questions you want to bring to the table.

This event is part of the @cadillacartscentre Open House as part of #detroitmonthofdesign

Free event. RSVP not required, but it's in the link in bio. 1533 Cadillac Blvd (entrance on St Paul), Detroit.

This Series No. 1: Chest, which I began just two weeks ago, was commissioned as an 80th birthday gift for someone we loved dearly, who had always wanted one of my pieces.

Last week, she unexpectedly slipped away.

This will be an incredibly emotional piece to finish. Every detail will be another chance to remember her and a reminder of just how fleeting our time with the people we love can be.

Take care of one another. Tell people you love them. None of us knows how much time we have. by @camber.atelier

I don’t think furniture should demand attention.

I think it should quietly earn a place in the rhythm of everyday life.

We pass by.
We pause.
We move.

Perhaps our time is measured less by the years we have, and more by the moments we’re present for.

Anna’s Chair is currently available. If it feels like it belongs in your rhythm, I’d love to hear from you. by @camber.atelier

I had a great time teaching this shaped side table workshop this weekend, hosted by @planewellness.

Over the course of the weekend, students learned traditional mortise and tenon joinery by hand before transitioning to machines, demonstrating that both approaches lead to the same result. We also covered shaping tapered, curved legs on all four faces at the bandsaw before refining them by hand.

Watching everyone leave with a finished table—and a deeper understanding of the craft—is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the years, and I’m already looking forward to the next class. taken in Detroit, Michigan by @camber.atelier

One of the things we love most about being in Detroit is getting to share the work of talented local makers.

The Torrent C-Table by Detroit woodworker, Kyle Stahler of @camber.atelier is one of those pieces that feels effortless. Crafted from solid walnut, its soft curves and clean lines let the beauty of the wood speak for itself.

Slide it alongside a sofa or lounge chair, and it becomes the perfect place for a morning coffee or an evening drink.

Thoughtful design, excellent craftsmanship. Made right here in Detroit.

Available now at Bowerbird Home.

There’s something satisfying about making furniture for your own home.

No client brief. No deadline. Just a simple need and the opportunity to solve it thoughtfully. Sometimes the simplest objects become the ones we use the most. taken in Detroit, Michigan by @camber.atelier

Not every project needs to become a collection piece.

Sometimes you simply need a place to sit while putting on your shoes.

Over the course of two days, I built this walnut entry bench for our home. Its design is intentionally quiet—drawing from Shaker simplicity and Japanese restraint rather than sculptural form.

A few pages from the latest issue of Furniture & Cabinetmaking Magazine.

I’m grateful to have been featured and to share a bit of my work and process with their readers.

The past month has been spent travelling, exhibiting work in New York, preparing classes, designing and settling back into the rhythm of the studio.

More to come. taken in Detroit, Michigan by @camber.atelier
