Episode 2 of the greatest roads series brings us another genuine contender for the best road in the country - this one surprised me.

This absolute gem of the South West is nestled on top of Exmoor national park among a dense network of gorgeous driving roads.

However, what makes this one so special is the location and the flow of the road, with 12 miles of glorious, varied tarmac, the steepest section of A-Road in the country and one of the most incredible views I’ve seen in the UK as you come towards the end of the route.

Episode 1 in the hunt for the best driving roads in the UK features the incredible B4391 up in Snowdonia, North Wales.

This one was a long old journey up from London but the roads through Shropshire and into North Wales are absolutely unreal.

The B4391 is well documented in the motoring press with legends like @rushcarmag @topgear and @autocar_official all calling it out in features over the years, yet it’s one I rarely see people going to drive.

It’s an absolute banger - epic views, great sight lines, low traffic, the road is wide (mostly) and it’s got so much variety: it goes from full on mountain pass to winding ridge road to twisties through the trees and it’s just so much fun to blast.

The 2 sections of the B4391 are equally epic so make sure to drive them both. As promised, we’re going to be scoring everything we drive here so watch the video to find out where this one ranks.

Episode 4 in the road trip series brings us South of the Scottish border to a region in the North of England that I don’t think gets enough credit for how good the roads are.

@cambr.app shows the North Pennines as having the highest density of great roads of any region in the UK, and having visited, I can see why.

I also teamed up with the legend @outlaw_l322 and his absolutely bonkers M57 swapped 116D track weapon for this one to get some local knowledge of the roads. Tom is putting out loads more content out on his build and having driven it, that’s something you definitely want to see, so follow him!

2. Route Builder - search the map, find roads you like and simply toggle them into a wish list for the engine to build into a route for you. Going with a friend? Collaborate on a shared list and build your dream route together, shipped to both of you and driveable together.

This might be the best road in Scotland…

It was my favourite, but interestingly @cambr.app actually disagrees with me on this one.

It’s by far the twistiest and most technical road I drove on the trip, but also the most engaging.

This little gem is nestled amongst the trees in Loch Lomond National Park and might prove that the best driving roads aren’t actually in the highlands.

The first app for driving enthusiasts is now live for testing.

Cambr maps Britain’s best driving roads and routes you to all of them, and a small group of drivers have been testing it for the past few days. The first wave from the waitlist is next, and new testers join every week after that.

What you get:
→ A map of 4,000+ UK roads, each scored on how good it is to drive
→ Routes that target in the best roads, with the extra time shown up front
→ Turn-by-turn, speed limits, cameras and average-speed zones
→ Rate the roads you drive. That’s how the map gets better.

New features will be added regularly as we run towards public launch, but we need your feedback to ensure the core version works as intended and that you guys love using it.

iPhone first, Android coming very soon.

What is the best road on the NC500?

I drove the whole thing to find out, and also to see whether the Scottish Highlands contains one of the best roads in the UK.

There might be one road we’ve missed here that we’ll be having a closer look at in the next video so stay tuned…
