Today is National Teaching Assistants’ Day, and we’re taking the opportunity to say a huge thank you to the wonderful Teaching Assistants across Cambrian Learning Trust.

From supporting learning in the classroom to helping pupils build confidence, overcome challenges, develop independence and feel safe and included, our TAs make a difference every single day.

They know our children, celebrate their successes, encourage them when things are difficult and are often the person who makes that little bit of difference to a child’s day. 💙

Our Teaching Assistants bring kindness, patience, dedication and care to everything they do, helping us to nurture growth and inspire minds across our schools.

Upcoming Event: Death by Shakespeare: How realistic were Shakespeare’s most creative deaths?

King Alfred’s Academy’s Sir Christopher Ricks Talk 2026 takes place at The Beacon, Wantage, on Wednesday 30 September, featuring Dr Kathryn Harkup, chemist, science communicator and author.

From poisonings to other inventive ways of ‘doing away’ with his characters, Kathryn will explore the science and medical knowledge behind Shakespeare’s deaths, and the historical events that may have inspired them.

A fascinating multi-disciplinary evening combining English Literature, Science and History and one that promises to look at Shakespeare in a whole new way.

Open to everyone!

FINANCE BUSINESS PARTNER

Cambrian Learning Trust are seeking to appoint to the post of Finance Business Partner to join our established central Trust Finance Team. The post holder will be responsible for delivering financial support to the Trusts schools as well as the production and monitoring of school budgets.

Financial experience working within a school environment would be desirable but is not essential.

We are looking for a candidate who has:

• Experience of undertaking monthly budget monitoring and reporting;

• Confidence in undertaking monthly payroll monitoring and reconciliation;

• Knowledge of undertaking BACS payment transactions, posting and sending remittances;

• Comfortable advising on procurement and ensuring value for money;

• Worked as part of a Team and built up good relationships with stakeholders.

A good practical knowledge of MS Excel is essential. Whilst use of specialist financial systems or other computerised accounts system are desirable, training will be provided to the successful candidate.

Pupils from across the Wantage and Abingdon schools within the Trust were celebrated at the ninth annual Cambrian Sports Awards, recognising the outstanding talent, determination and commitment shown by primary-aged students across the Trust.
Held at King Alfred's Academy, the awards have become a highlight of the sporting calendar, celebrating not only sporting excellence but also the dedication, resilience and positive attitudes that pupils demonstrate both on and off the field of play.
Schools nominated pupils across a wide range of categories, from dance, cricket and football to inspiring leadership, with the evening culminating in the presentation of the prestigious Sports Boy and Sports Girl awards, selected from nominees across all participating schools.
The event was organised by Cambrian Learning Trust Enrichment Lead, Paul Chadwick, whose work continues to provide pupils with opportunities to discover passions, build confidence and develop character through sport and enrichment.
The evening also featured an inspiring address from GB Triathlon athlete Pam Stokell, who captivated pupils by sharing how she went from taking up triathlon in her 50s to representing Great Britain. Her story of perseverance, courage and self-belief perfectly reflected the values celebrated throughout the evening, proving that with determination and hard work, it's never too late to achieve your ambitions.
The Trust would also like to congratulate Darcie and Isabelle from Millbrook and Charlton Primary Schools, who did an outstanding job co-hosting the awards alongside Paul Chadwick. Their confidence, enthusiasm and professionalism helped make the evening a memorable celebration of sporting success.

Last night, Cambrian Learning Trust held its end of year presentations for the 2025-2026 cohort of Aspiring Leaders.

This was a celebration of the work and commitment they have shown all year towards their continued professional learning and development. Our Cambrian leadership programme consists of termly face-to-face focussed training and development sessions, each led by leaders from within the Trust. There is also research-led reading and networking opportunities in-between these in-person events. During the presentations, each leader spoke for five minutes, showcasing the impact the programme has had on their subject/area of leadership within their schools.

Wantage CE Primary School has officially opened its new Reading Shed, creating an inviting space where pupils can enjoy books throughout the school day and helping to make reading accessible to all, at all times.
Funded by the school's PTA and situated between the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 playgrounds, the Reading Shed was born from a desire to promote reading for pleasure and ensure that every child has easy access to books during breaktimes and beyond. The space will also be available to families, allowing parents and carers to borrow books to share and enjoy at home with their children.
The school celebrated the opening yesterday with a special visit from renowned children's author Camilla Reid, who officially opened the shed and marked the launch of her new book, I Am Ready For School, which is dedicated to Wantage CE Primary School.
During the event, Camilla read the story to children preparing to join Reception in September, helping to build excitement and confidence ahead of their first days at school.
Written in response to growing national conversations around school readiness, I Am Ready For School helps families explore the simple but important skills children need to thrive in school, including curiosity, independence and self-care. Written in Camilla's warm and familiar style and illustrated by Kate Hindley, the book has already been endorsed by teachers and early years specialists.
The Reading Shed reflects the school's commitment to creating opportunities for every child to discover the joy of reading and develop a lifelong love of books.
Andy Browne, Headteacher at Wantage CE Primary School, said:
"The Reading Shed is about opening up opportunities for every child to enjoy books whenever inspiration strikes. We want reading to be at the heart of school life and are hugely grateful to our PTA for helping bring this vision to life."

Support children on a 1:1 and small group basis, assist teachers in the classroom, help create a positive learning environment, and supervise a 30-minute lunchtime duty each day. Up to 30 hours per week, Monday–Friday.

No school experience required!! We are looking for someone who builds positive relationships with children, is calm and patient, works well in a team, and is willing to learn and develop. Experience in care, youth work or coaching is welcome.
