Being first gen hit me harder than I ever expected.
I came into college with no blueprint,
just a Bethel Grove baby trying to make something out of nothing.

My mama never finished college
but she filled our house with knowledge through
stories,role play broadcasts, talent shows, and
Full on productions in the living room.

That is where my voice started.
That is where my storytelling began.

Spring 2021, fresh off a 2020 graduation,
I entered college as a fashion design major
ready to sew, create, and touch fabric.
But COVID shut everything down
and the design process felt far away.

So I switched to journalism.
It felt natural,
like stepping back into the voice my mama raised in me.

But fashion never left.
Film never left.
None of my passions went quiet
even when people told me to pick one lane.

I picked all three.
Journalism, fashion design, and film.
I dropped minors, added them back, changed directions,
but I kept going because I refused to leave anything unfinished.

I gave the press like journalism.
I pressed the clothes like fashion.
Pressed play for film.
And let my passions run free.

And every morning I remind myself
LIGHTS.CAMERAN.ACTION
because every day is a new episode
and I am the one directing it. by @camcameran
