My beautiful Mammaw became cancer free on September 11th at 8:41 pm. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in may, which was the start of her 3rd battle with cancer. My Mammaw was the strongest woman I have ever known. She didn’t get mad, or selfish when she found out, she simply said her time on earth wasn’t done, and that she needed more time with her family. And that’s exactly what my sweet Mammaw got. She put up a hell of a fight, we had so many good days, that it made the bad ones feel so small. The past few months have consisted of family in and out of her house 24/7, we cherished our Angel for all the time we had left with her. My Mammaw is the perfect example of Proverbs 31:10. A strong God fearing woman who did nothing but love and care for everyone, she was a Mammaw to anyone who needed her. I feel an overwhelming amount of gratitude because I got 19 years with my great grandmother. She was my first teacher, the first person to read me the Bible, and my first best friend. I hope she enjoyed growing old with me, as much as I enjoyed growing up with her. There will never be enough words to explain the love and bond I had with her. She was the person who made even the worst of the worst better. The last conversation I had with my Mammaw was telling her that I got into nursing school, and the smile on her face will stick with me for the rest of my life. I’d like to think she was my first patient,and getting the privilege of taking care of her is something I’ll thank God for everyday. I so selfishly wish she could of stayed with me a little longer, but I am also so happy that she is no longer in any pain or suffering. She shaped me into the person I am today, and I am so blessed to have been loved by her. Heaven is so unbelievably lucky. I know you look absolutely beautiful with your wings Mammaw.
