So my brother and I taped this spoof Terminator trailer back in Spring 1986, a few months after we got a VHS camcorder for Christmas. Problem is, I had no way of cutting together at the time (editing from VCR to VCR with any sort of precision is practically impossible). Years later, my dad transferred a bunch of our old VHS home movies to DVD. I digitized the footage in 2021 and thought, hey, maybe I can finally cut that trailer together. So I did. Added some music and sound effects and viola! The Littlest Terminator lives!

Blood Secret
Dir. Cameron Francis
Screened as part of my remote press coverage of Tubi Frightfest

Following its World Premiere at FrightFest on 27th August, I’m delighted to share my spoiler free review of Blood Secret.

Blood Secret is a micro-budget indie film that plays on the complexity of friendships and hacks at the surface to unveil the secrets and betrayal lying beneath. The premise is strong, playing out between two leads that are torn in some sordid cat and mouse game, and we’re dragged along for the ride. What director Cameron Francis managed to achieve with a budget of $3,500 is impressive, and their creativity with limited resources is on full display. The narrative is complex with a lot of twists to navigate, and I found the dialogue awkward in places, yet the cast do well to deliver what is effectively a film focused on the complex relationship between two long-time friends. This is more a drama with dark humour interwoven than a true horror feature, however there are moments of gore that genre fans will enjoy. If you’re a true fan of grass roots independent filmmaking Blood Secret could be for you.

For fans of
Tragedy Girls (2017)
The Perfection (2018)
What Keeps You Alive (2018)

If you didn’t manage to catch Blood Secret at FrightFest, I’d highly recommend dropping the tagged accounts a follow to see where it will screen next.

Didn’t occur to me until after the FrightFest screening that we literally made a creepy pasta movie.

Mini posters and buttons are great giveaways. I came to FrightFest with close to 100 badges and flyers, put them on the table, and they were gone within a couple of hours. I probably could have brought 200!

Making a movie isn’t just about the numbers… It’s about creativity, determination, and bringing a story to audiences. Blood Secret is a great example of what passionate filmmakers can accomplish on a micro budget. Congratulations to director @cameronfrancis5 on the success of his film BLOOD SECRET!
