It is hard for me to read that being single is just an opportunity to have undivided devotion to the Lord. That’s how I know that it became an idol.

Specifically these are the verses that stand out and what I take from them.

27: “…Are you free from such a commitment? Do not look for a wife.”
I am constantly looking. This means that I’m constantly thinking about finding a girlfriend and being single. That’s exhausting and it only makes me feel worse about being single.

32: “I would like you to be free from concern…”
I’m straight up concerned that’s for sure. I catch myself worrying about being single all the time. Thinking, how can I find a girlfriend, am I screwing up, am I doing the right things to find someone, am I falling behind. How is worrying about it helping at all? It’s not. I can’t force this or even speed up the process.

32 continued, 33 and 34: “An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs - how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world - how he can please his wife - and his interests are divided.”
This is an OPPORTUNITY to be fully focused on God and my relationship with Him. On paper that’s obviously incredible. And yet I’m having a hard time with that? Something has to be wrong in my heart for that.

35: “I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.”
What a great time it is for me to continue strengthening the bond I have with THE TRUE LIVING GOD. More time to focus on Him. But I have to stop worrying about being single and see it as a blessing.
