There was an unexpected buzz at the CAMH Queen Street site this week, as Canadian men's national soccer team player and World Cup goal scorer Promise David visited our hospital with his mother, who works as a Registered Nurse in our Forensic Program, and his father. As he entered to cheers and applause from patients and staff, Promise shared reflections on his soccer journey, and how he handled the pressure of elite sport. Later, everyone had a chance to score some unforgettable memories: Promise showed off his dribbling skills with excited youth, staff and patients, signed autographs, took photos with fans, and answered everyone's questions with humour and grace.

It's always a special occasion to welcome friends who understand the importance of mental health, who are able to share the impact that mental health plays in their lives. Thank you Promise for an unforgettable visit! by @camhfoundation

Summer heat can affect more than just your physical health. It can also have a real impact on your mental well-being.

Research shows that rising temperatures and extreme heat can increase stress, worsen anxiety, disrupt sleep, and make it harder to cope, particularly for people living with mental health challenges and those most exposed to the impacts of climate change.

As summers continue to get hotter, it's important to recognize the connection between climate change and mental health.

Use the link in our bio to learn more about how climate change is affecting mental well-being today and for the future.

Canada Day is an opportunity to celebrate the people, cultures, and communities that make this country home.

It is also a time to recognize the history of this land and honour the enduring presence, histories, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

As we celebrate, may we also reflect, learn, and continue working toward a future built on respect, understanding and reconciliation.

Sometimes breaking cycles starts with understanding where they came from.

For many children of immigrants, healing means holding multiple truths: recognizing the sacrifices our parents made, while also acknowledging the things we’re still learning to heal from.

It means seeing our parents not just as parents — but as people who were also navigating life without a map.

WITHOUT A MAP is a conversation in partnership with @camhfoundation among Asian men about identity, family and mental health.

Men talk — but how often do they talk about what they’re really going through?

For Men’s Mental Health Month, we teamed up with @camhfoundation to bring together five Asian men for a conversation around identity, masculinity, family and mental health and to explore the things they’ve carried, questioned and learned along the way.

“I have done hair for 50 years.

And in that time, I have had every kind of person sit in my chair.

Somewhere between the wash and the finish, when someone is being cared for, people start to talk.

This Men’s Mental Health Month, I keep thinking about the men.

A man who might never walk into a therapist’s office will sit down for a haircut. And sometimes, that is where it comes out: his family, the week he has had, the things he has been carrying on his own. That has taught me something important: care does not always begin in a clinical setting.

Sometimes it begins in a chair. In a conversation. In a moment where someone feels respected, listened to and restored.

For years, my slogan has been “well-being through beauty,” and working with CAMH Foundation felt like a natural extension of that belief. I first began volunteering at Gifts of Light Wellness Days, where I saw that idea come to life.

I watched people’s energy shift before and after a service. I saw clients gain confidence after services, follow along their recovery and eventually leave inpatient care. Some even remained clients — only now at my studio.

Sometimes, something as simple as having your hair shampooed, cut or styled can help someone feel like themselves again.

Men, like anyone else, need spaces where they can feel supported without judgment. And sometimes, opening up starts with feeling comfortable enough to be cared for. I wanted to do more.

So I decided to use what I had built over my career — my relationships with salons, designers, agencies, models, restaurants and the Yorkville community — to create a fashion show that brings people together for a cause. That is how Couture for a Cause came to life.

The event brings together Yorkville salons, Canadian designers, boutiques, restaurants and models in support of CAMH Foundation. For me, supporting CAMH Foundation is about helping people understand the power of care.

Care can be a conversation. It can be a service. It can be reminding someone of their dignity when they may not feel it themselves. Because when someone feels cared for, it can change everything.”
