entry 002: the first week back

hello everyone, happy friday. today i was reading this poem for my english elective and couldn’t help but relate to certain feelings. i like to take poems and dissect them in “different” ways while still sticking to their theme. poems say so much with so little words. anyway, the poem is on the first two slides and my thoughts and feelings are to follow. hope you enjoy!

hi, i’m camilla.

i’m a journalism student, a chronic documenter of things that probably did not need documenting, and someone who has never quite figured out how to experience a moment without also thinking about how i’m going to remember it later…

in my opinion i’ve always been a little TOO interested in people… the way they speak, the stories they carry around without realizing it, the tiny details that make someone unmistakably themselves. i love asking questions. i like noticing things. i like knowing the story behind things. and, occasionally, i like pretending i’m not being nosy when i most definitely am.

i’m sentimental in ways i try to hide and nostalgic for things that happened five minutes ago. i collect photographs, clothes, places, songs, receipts, birthday cards, and memories that i’m convinced i’ll forget if i don’t save them somewhere. i have a soft spot for anything old, slightly strange, beautifully imperfect, or with a story attached to it.

this account is, first and foremost, a place for my work as i make my way through journalism school. it is somewhere for me to put the things i’m learning, writing, photographing, researching, and inevitably overthinking. but i also want it to be a place where i can keep writing simply because i love it. a place to follow a thought when it has nowhere else to go, to tell a story because i found it interesting, or to put something into words before it disappears from my head.

i’m curious. i’m observant. i’m stubborn. i’m a little chaotic. i care probably more than i let on. i romanticize things, but i also make fun of myself for romanticizing them, so i think that cancels it out…

i don’t have myself completely figured out yet, and honestly, i hope i never do.

there are still too many places to go, people to meet, things to learn, stories to tell, and versions of myself to become.

so this is me, at the beginning of something.

not sure exactly what yet.

but i suppose that’s what the record is for.
