Hiiiii! I’m Camille! If you’re new here, welcome to Rainbow Dream Land! 🌈✨

I have a rare sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. It’s complicated to explain, but basically there’s a small part of your brain that controls wake, dream sleep, and deep sleep. In narcoleptics, this “switch” is faulty! Our wake/sleep/dream cycles don’t follow the typical pattern and can get all jumbled up. It often it feels like I am both “wide awake AND dreaming.” 😵‍💫

One interesting side effect I experience is colorful hallucinations. These visions serve as the inspiration for the art I create. Join me on my journey through dreamy fields of color! 🌈✨😴.

Today for Watercolor Wednesday we are highlighting Camille Gerrick!

"My art practice is a response to living with multiple, life-long health conditions. The act of creating allows me to temporarily escape my worries and enter a medatitive mindset that soothes both my mind and body.
My work is greatly influenced by my experience with narcolepsy, a rare sleep disorder. This condition causes me to experience waking dreams that are filled with vibrant colors!"

After I mount my paintings to panels, I’m left with these colorful scrap papers. It’s very satisfying to tinker with them and arrange them into their own little compositions. I save them in a box because this could make a great 100 day project one of these years! 🌈✨

What do you save because it has potential?

These dreamy blues found their home recently… and I love that their new collector adopted all three and kept the siblings together. 💙✨

Hey local artists! Read this!!

Did you know there is an effort underway to investigate the feasibility of starting a local arts council? I participated in a community brainstorming session in October and one outcome was a community survey to assess YOUR needs.

Please consider taking a few minutes think about how an arts council could serve this region, and fill out the survey and make your voices heard!

Follow the link, or access the survey from @newcityartsinitiative Instagram!

I’ve grown to love round panels, they’re just so fun! I thought I’d show a comparison of some sizes that I offer. Which one would fit best in your home? Send this to yourself as a reminder next time you need a visual guide to scale.

Dropping my latest piece off @artscouncilofthevalley today for their next exhibit. Also, I thought my hair looked really great from the back! 🤣

Oh, hi, I’m Camille! I paint the space between wake and dream by using watercolors and soft blends to represent this liminal state of consciousness. This painting depicts what it feels like to be pulled (sometimes unwillingly) into sleep. My body becomes paralyzed, I lose sense of gravity, and feel as though an invisible current is floating me gently into a colorful dreamland.
