A pretty wonderful weekend in Paris with these wonderful humans.

Think: Canal swims, great food, metro sweats, dad's art exhibition, street parties, heatwave hacks, happy hour pints, policemen with water guns, friends meeting the parents, oh and Fête de la Musique. taken in Paris, France by @camillechedburn

🇧🇿 Day 19-23 - Belize

After a full night's sleep of exactly 1.5 hours, I woke up without a hangover which was quite an achievement. At 5:30am I made my way and at 6am the bus left. It was not nice - so cramped and sweaty in there, I needed to sleep but I couldn't.

We passed the border super easily and drove to Belize city at which point I took a ferry to San Pedro. Now, mind you, the weather was terrible when I arrived in San Pedro, so it may not have helped. However - this place made me feel so uncomfortable. There were too many old drunk white men and women riding golf carts around and for me, that's not something I enjoyed being a part of. I didn't feel that San Pedro was very authentic, so there's a lack of photos I could take, but obviously decided to laugh about the situation and take a Gringo Land photo series which I'll post another time. Anyway, to really immerse myself into this culture, I decided to hire a golf cart with another 3 travellers from the hostel and we drove to the beach where we had piña coladas, tacos, and a lot of doing absolutely nothing. It was great.

In the evening, we went for dinner and I managed to book a couple nights in a hostel in Caye Caulker for the following two nights so I was super happy to get off San Pedro.
Caye Caulker is sweet but Belize is so bloody expensive I wouldn't stay there long. I ended up joining another hostel's bar crawl and found a couple peeps from Guatemala which was so lovely. The next day I went on a snorkeling tour and swam with sharks, turtles, barracudas, clown fish, sting and manta rays. Our guides were hilarious so we had a lot of fun on the boat.

🇬🇹 Day 16-18 - El Remate, Tikal, and Flores

After a heavy day of drinking at the boat party, I decided to go to El Remate, a different town on the other side of the lake for a bit of a change. I arrived at my hostel which was absolutely dead. Only french couples who didn't like to socialise. I slept in a room which was basically opened (no walls, just a roof) so we were in the middle of nature. It was pretty cool as you could hear the animals at night, specifically the howler monkeys at night so it really felt like I was sleeping in the jungle.

The next morning I got picked up at 5am to make my way to Tikal. Somehow, I managed to join a group with a guide who let me tag along so I actually got to learn about the history of Tikal and understand what was going on. It was such an interesting day and an amazing site to see.

When I got back I decided I didn't want to stay in the hostel anymore and ended up back in Flores where the staff were happy to see me. Met some really cool chicas with whom I went out to the beach the following morning and dinner/cocktails in the evening.

We had a lot of fun. I think my favourite part was sitting on the deck of the lake with lots of new friends with a beer and cigarette at 3am - which was rudely interrupted by the police who asked us to go to sleep. Fair enough, as I had to wake up at 5am the next day to catch a bus. taken in Tikal, Guatemala by @camillechedburn

🇬🇹 Day 13-15 - Flores

Left Atitlán for Flores. Got a first shuttle to Guatemala City which took 4 hours, then a double decker bus for another 10 hours to Flores. It was all fine until I realised I was surrounded by cockroaches on the bus and that was less of a good surprise. I arrived in Flores at around 5:30am and the hostel was nice enough to let me check in 7 hours early so I was able to sleep a little bit in the morning.

Later met some friends for a dip in the lake, dinner and beer in the evening, etc. The following day I went to Chechenal playa, got lost in the woods and so on, but heard howler monkeys so that was cool. A cool thing that's happened is that I was able to hold a full 30mn conversation with 3 locals in Spanish.

The last couple days has honestly been about socialising and partying, so not much to say that's interesting apart from the fact that I've been having fun going to boat parties and drinking (ir)responsibly. taken in Flores Petén, Peten, Guatemala by @camillechedburn
