To my dad, on what would’ve been his 70th birthday:

While today might serve as a day to celebrate you, I hope you know that not a day goes by that isn’t filled with your essence. I wish you could see the life Matt and I have tried to build in your memory and all the ways your love has defined the people we are and continue to become.

Each year on your birthday, I try to honor you the best ways I know how to keep you legacy alive but, the truth is, I feel stuck in a constant loop because my memory of you is frozen in time; I fear the day I’ll eventually run out of photos or memories to share or that I’ll forget the sound of your laugh or what it felt like to be loved by you—because then, I might truly lose you.

So I fill my house with your old photos and all the things you used to love, listen to your favorite music, cover myself in tattoos dedicated to you, drive your car, wear your old t-shirts and watches, look for signs of you everywhere I go, and chase any feeling that reminds me of you…forever hoping—even if aimlessly—that this will bring you back to me.

Yesterday with dad 🪽Our little family spent the afternoon driving around town to dad’s favorite music then picnicked with him past sunset and into the full moon. After four years without him, it’s the little rituals like this that i hold onto and allow me to feel him again…I hope he can feel us too🤍♾️ by @camillekeh
