When I started photographing underwater almost 8 years ago, I never imagined how far this path would take me.
I’ve faced cold, currents, discomfort, but also moments that have marked my life forever.

Since the day I discovered @waterproofinternational , it was a dream to imagine working with them and having the privilege of wearing their suits. Today, just a few weeks after officially joining the Waterproof family, I feel honored to have their support and deeply value what this means for me and my work.

This year I experienced something I had never felt with a wetsuit before: true comfort and protection. The Waterproof W7 5mm has been with me as if it had always been part of my adventures.

Cami Torres was in her early 30s when she made the decision that changed her life. After a vacation in Thailand, she decided to book another flight back. From there she enrolled in scuba courses, earned her open water certification, acquired a camera, and turned her newfound passion into the heartbeat of her career. Formerly focused on fashion and commercial photography, Cami describes a seismic shift and clarity that came with time in the water: “It’s where all the pieces come together.” Today, she can’t imagine her life without the ocean.⁠

We caught up with Cami after she spent time in Mexico documenting the Mesoamerican Reef and supporting the launch of a Parley partnership that aims to reconnect individuals and communities to their love of the oceans. She talked through her journey into underwater photography and offers some encouraging perspective on what she’s learned from the ocean along the way.⁠

Everything is temporary: the light, the status quo, whatever routine you feel you’re stuck in now, nothing is forever unless you choose to stay put. Anything can happen. As Cami explains, you never know what awaits in the water. That’s the magic of the unknown. by @camitorresph

PADI AWARE Week may come to an end on September 20th, but our responsibility to the ocean doesn’t. 🌊

As divers, we are incredibly lucky.
We get to enter a world that most people will never see. We witness its beauty, its behavior, its smallest details — but also how fragile it can be.

And I believe that privilege comes with responsibility.

Awareness is where it starts, but it can’t be where it ends.

Every dive is an opportunity to observe, to learn, to respect, to protect, and sometimes, to take action. It doesn’t always have to be something huge. Small choices, repeated by millions of people who care, can make a difference.

AWARE Week happens once a year.
But the ocean needs us all year long.

So when we go back underwater, let’s not just be witnesses to this incredible world.

Let’s be part of protecting it. 💙

TODO ESTO NO ES AI
Hoy es el día internacional de la fotografía 📸💘
y aquí alguna reflexión que se me viene en especial con este homenaje a lo que me hace tan feliz.

Hay lugares que aprendí a mirar gracias a una cámara.

Y otros que, a través de ella, aprendí a amar.

La fotografía me llevó a observar más despacio, a acercarme sin invadir, a esperar, a entender la luz, el movimiento y el silencio.

Me llevó incluso debajo del agua, donde descubrí que algunas de las historias más extraordinarias de este planeta suceden sin que podamos verlas.

Quizás por eso fotografío.

Para traer un pequeño fragmento de esos mundos conmigo.
Para compartir lo que tuve la suerte de presenciar.
Para transformar un instante en memoria.

Porque fotografiar, para mí, siempre fue mucho más que hacer imágenes.

Hay cosas que no tienen precio.

Los bosques, las montañas, los ríos, los glaciares, nuestros mares, nuestros humedales y cada rincón de este maravilloso país forman parte de un patrimonio que no heredamos de quienes vinieron antes, sino que tomamos prestado de quienes vendrán después.

No se trata de ideologías. Se trata de cuidar lo que es de todxs. De defender nuestra soberanía, nuestro ambiente y nuestra identidad.

A veces una fotografía puede viajar mucho más lejos de lo que imaginamos.

Durante la Coral Awareness Week, algunas de mis imágenes forman parte de una iniciativa de @oceanculturelife @legoodsociety , donde el trabajo de fotógrafos y artistas de distintas partes del mundo se exhibe en más de 200 pantallas distribuidas por varias ciudades de los Países Bajos.

Es difícil explicar la emoción que siento al ver mi trabajo formando parte de una causa tan importante. No solo porque estas imágenes llegan a miles de personas, sino porque demuestran el poder que tiene el arte para generar conversaciones, despertar curiosidad y acercarnos a un mundo que muchas veces permanece oculto bajo la superficie.

Los arrecifes de coral albergan cerca del 25% de toda la vida marina, protegen costas, sostienen comunidades y son uno de los ecosistemas más valiosos y, al mismo tiempo, más vulnerables de nuestro planeta.

Me llena de orgullo compartir este espacio con tantos colegas de diferentes países, unidos por una misma misión: contar historias que inspiren a conocer, amar y proteger el océano.

Gracias a @oceanculturelife @legoodsociety por impulsar iniciativas que convierten la fotografía en una herramienta para la conservación.

Porque protegemos aquello que conocemos.

There are moments that change the direction of our lives forever.

For Cami, it started with a first dive, a first shark, and a feeling of fascination that would eventually become a life dedicated to the ocean.

Her journey is a reminder of what can happen when curiosity becomes understanding, fear becomes respect, and passion finds a purpose.

This PADI Women’s Dive Day, we celebrate the women finding their voices underwater, sharing the stories of our ocean, and inspiring others to know it, love it, and protect it.

Because every observation matters. Every story can create connections. And every one of us has a role to play in protecting sharks and rays.

Hace 8 años entré al agua con una cámara.
Pensé que iba a aprender a hacer fotografías.
Terminé aprendiendo mucho más que eso.

Muchas veces la mejor imagen aparece cuando dejamos espacio.
Para observar.
Para entender.
Para que la escena suceda por sí sola.

Algunas de las fotografías que más valoro ocurrieron después de horas sin que pasara absolutamente nada.

Hay encuentros que soñé durante mucho tiempo.
Y cuando finalmente ocurrieron, duraron apenas unos segundos.

Cuanto más tiempo paso bajo el agua, más entiendo que no estamos ahí para controlar nada.
Solo para ser testigos.

Y creo que eso es lo que más me gusta de él.
Nunca sé exactamente qué voy a encontrar.

Todavía siento la misma curiosidad que el primer día.
Y espero no perderla nunca.
