Hey campers! It's almost time to pick up your tent and enjoy the outdoors. This sandy spot sits on the outskirts of the camp and comes with a fire pit, tire stools to sit on, and a wide wind wall to keep your campfire safe and give you privacy. Come smell the sage and relax with the lizards while you enjoy the stunning sunsets New Mexico has to offer.

There's a joy of being a human and making something with your hands. Don't you think? 🤔

Of course, there are many people out there who do know what it's like to work with their hands every day. 🤲

But in this age of accelerating technology and modern day living, there are a lot of us office workers (me included 🙋‍♀️) who spend the days staring at a screen, dealing with emails, and working with things that seem very intangible indeed.

I'm sure a lot of us would find happiness in getting our hands dirty. In picking up some clay. In existing in the physical space!

Roan Shafo @campdarkmoon shares his love for dirt, mud, and clay (what's the difference?!?!) in the first episode of the True Spirits episode, which drops on Wednesday!

I am so bloody excited to tease the first ever episode of the True Spirits Podcast. 🌿

My marketing of the podcast has been absolutely terrible so hello, yes, I am also launching a podcast alongside the book club I've got going on. 📚

In the first episode I interview Roan Shafo @campdarkmoon and we had the absolute best time chatting about all things dirt, mud, sand, silt, and soil at my home while drinking various teas. 🍵

He is a self described dirt goblin who left his career as an animator to learn how to build earthen homes and figure out how to live off grid. Well, he figured it out! Now Roan runs @campdarkmoon, an actual campsite in Belen, New Mexico, where he lives with his partner Ivy and holds community workshops and makes pottery in a handmade kiln, of course.

I met Roan at a local zine fest pop up thingy and knew pretty quickly he was a kindred soul. 😄

The full episode will drop next week on Wednesday on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and all the places. I cannot wait for you to listen.

Rain! Look at that! Our little pond filled up!

The weather this year has been dry. So dry until today. Luckily all the local plants are drought resistant so the landscape hasn't changed much. The sage, yucca, and cactus are all doing fine. What surprises me though, is that not even weeds grew this year. There's usually many dozens of goatheads and tumbleweeds to pull (it's a big part of our annual upkeep for the camp) but this year, we've only seen a handful. I've probably spent a total of one minute pulling weeds this year, an activity that usually takes a whole weekend.
