There are two particularly unique windows in the historic Mill Street School building which are located at two upper corners of the front facade. They have a special triangular munton configuration, and they have thankfully/miraculously remained intact for 115 years! They are now receiving a well deserved glow-up ✨

We are so lucky to have the expertise of @willamette_window_restoration right here in Springfield, especially for the restoration of the ~127 windows in this building!

Julie and her team, in partnership with the Springfield Historic Commission, are offering and hands-on wood window restoration workshop on Saturday September 12th. Open to all! Come for the workshop and stay for the @springfieldblockparty later in the afternoon!!!!

Our chief #barkitect dreaming up the best design for the site. It probably involves a swimming hole and tennis ball launcher… 🐶 🎾

Thanks to Lillian at @lookout_eugene_springfield for today’s great article about the Mill Street School Apartments! This is an adaptive reuse project we are working on, converting a historic 3-story school building into 40 apartments on the north edge of downtown Springfield. Not only has it saved this historic building from demolition, but it will also bring much needed housing to our downtown core. Stay tuned!!! #womenarchitects #adaptivereusearchitecture #historicpreservation #therealspringfield @willamette_window_restoration @thesatregroup @cityspfldoregon @distinctivelyspringfield @springfieldmuseum_oregon @aiaoregon @scribbleyfribley @klbuzzell by @campfirelab

People regularly ask “when are they going to do something with the Mill St School”? To which we reply that there is lots of exciting stuff happening, it’s just INSIDE where you can’t see it yet! So here’s a sneak peek - most of the interior wall framing for the 40 new apartments is complete, and the ground floor slab has been trenched for plumbing. Stay tuned, more to come!

So proud to have our DEN Tiny house project recognized with a Merit Award at the AIA Oregon Architecture Awards event in Portland! The jurors shared some very kind words and we are so grateful that they appreciated the level of intention we devoted to the details of this project 🥹 To see more information about the design, visit www.campfirelab.com/den-tiny-house

So much interesting texture on these old buildings in PA! The town of Lititz has a strong heritage tourism game, without feeling touristy - with a rich history of chocolate and pretzel making!!!! 🍫 🥨

Ending the week on a high note, we received permit approval from the city for the Mill Street School Apartments! This project will convert this historic 3-story school building into 40 new market-rate apartments. It’s exciting that we can celebrate this historic building and give it a new purpose, while also adding much needed housing to downtown!

Have a 1960’s ranch home with wood floors? Odds are they are a mix of red and white oak “shorts” like these, but they pretty much just look orange because of the old varnish. The great thing about these floors is they are good quality 60+ year old material 🌳 , and will be much lighter and brighter with a good sand and modern sealer.
