From last week: The Testing Stone of the Fianna Not every lifting stone was raised to prove strength. Some were lifted to prove worth.Long before records, rankings and (social) media, a single stone could decide whether you were worthy to stand among warriors. According to tradition, young men seeking to join the Fianna, the legendary Gaelic warriors, had to pass a series of demanding trials. One of them was lifting this stone from the ground. Only those who possessed the required strength, skill and determination were considered worthy. The 127kg Fianna Stone (also known as The Bodach – "The Old Man") is the oldest mainland lifting stone in Scotland and rests in the remote Glen Lyon, one of Scotland's most beautiful and peaceful glens, surrounded by a timeless Highland landscape.Together with the Dinnie Stones, this was the stone that mattered most to me on this trip. For logistical reasons, however, it also became the very last stone on the very last day. After all the lifting, all the travelling and all the experiences along the way, together with my shoulder issues, my body simply had nothing left.I managed both the lift to the chest and the lift onto the plinth on my first attempt—driven by nothing but will!Because of its uneven shape, the stone feels incredibly awkward as soon as it leaves the ground. But once it started moving, I just refused to let it go.#oldschoolstrength#oldtimestrong#scottishstonesofstrength#scottishliftingstonesBecause #youcantfakestrength by @camz_grip

From last week: The Barevan Graveyard StoneThe Barevan Stone is one of Scotland's most extraordinary Historic Lifting Stones - both because of its history and its remarkable location. The 105 kg stone rests in a small woodland graveyard beside the ruins of the medieval Barevan Church. A truly spectacular setting, with crumbling graves and ancient trees creating a unique atmosphere. The stone's original purpose, however, is believed to have been very different:Right beside the church ruins stands a stone sarcophagus that was likely used as a place of public punishment. The offender was laid inside, and a heavy stone slab, weighed down by the Barevan Stone, prevented any escape. The head and part of the upper body remained exposed, allowing people on their way to or from church to humiliate the prisoner by spitting, striking, kicking, or even worse.Centuries later, the stone was given a new purpose: By the late 19th century, it was already described as "a test from bygone days" and had long been lifted as a traditional test of strength, passed down through generations.Lifted on my first attempt.#oldschoolstrength#oldtimestrong#scottishstonesofstrength#scottishliftingstonesBecause #youcantfakestrength by @camz_grip

From last week: The Dalwhinnie StoneThe Dalwhinnie Stone is a 102 kg Historic Lifting Stone that was probably lifted by travellers, drovers (Dalwhinnie was a meeting point for several drovers' routes) and local people long before the 20th century. The first documented lift, however, dates back to 1912.Today, it is regarded as the highest Historic Lifting Stone in Great Britain and, thanks to its remarkably even shape, is considered one of Scotland's most beautiful and coveted Traditional Lifting Stones."When the Dalwhinnie Stone is lifted, it travels further to the heavens than any other Scottish stone." — Peter MartinLifted on my second attempt after I had to abort the first one to dry the stone. From last week: Historic Scottish Lifting StonesNewtonmore Old Coffin Road Testing Stone - 101kgThe Newtonmore Stone (also known as Clach Thogalaich a' Bhaile Ùir) lies beside Newtonmore's historic Old Coffin Road. These ancient coffin roads were once used to carry the deceased from remote settlements to St Bride's (Banchor Cemetery) for burial. The exact age of the Newtonmore Stone is unknown, but it is believed to have been used as a lifting stone for centuries (!) beside the ancient Old Coffin Road, where coffin bearers have tested their strength while resting on the journey to St Bride's Cemetery.Lifted first attempt.#oldschoolstrength#oldtimestrong#scottishstonesofstrength#scottishliftingstonesBecause #youcantfakestrength by @camz_grip

From last week: The Old Spey Bridge StonesAnother three modern Scottish lifting stones, established by Jamie @bigsexygrandad101 in a truly special setting.Sitting on the banks of the River Spey beneath the historic Old Spey Bridge, these three stones weigh 60kg, 84kg, and 110kg. It's a peaceful spot for chilling, relaxing or having a picknick. Perfect to slow down and enjoy the scenery. As I was still dealing with some shoulder issues, I only lifted the small and the middleweight stone. The big one will have to wait for another day.Check out Jamie's website scottishstonesofstrength.co.uk for more information about the Scottish Lifting Stones!#oldschoolstrength#oldtimestrong#scottishstonesofstrength#scottishliftingstonesBecause #youcantfakestrength by @camz_grip

From last week: Millshore StoneAt Millshore Beach, you'll find three more Modern Scottish Lifting Stones set against a truly breathtaking backdrop. Do you know that sound of pebbles rolling as the water flows back after a wave has broken? Absolutely love it!The stones weigh 48kg, 89kg, and 125kg, and the largest one is an absolute beauty. If you're ever there, make sure to say hello to Bill and his wife at Millshore Pottery. You can even get a coffee there! They're incredibly friendly and are in some way the "Keepers of the Stones". Maybe there will be a guestbook for successful lifts in the future.Lifted on my first attempt in absolutely glorious Scottish summer weather.Second vid is the 89kg stone. Many thanks to Jamie @bigsexygrandad101 Andy @crawfordov24 and Michael @mouldyshed for creating this challenge.#oldtimestrong #oldschoolstrength#scottishstonesofstrength#scottishliftingstonesBecause #youcantfakestrength by @camz_grip

Alongside Scotland’s historic lifting stones, there are also a number of more modern stones that have been placed in recent years. Many of them were established to honour places or people of historical significance, while others simply mark locations whose beauty and atmosphere make them worthy of a stone challenge.Among these modern Scottish Stones of Strength are the lifting stones at the East Aquhorthies Recumbent Stone Circle. Built more than 4,000 years ago, East Aquhorthies is widely regarded as one of the finest and best-preserved recumbent stone circles in north-east Scotland. At this remarkable place of strength, history and culture, two beautiful stones await those willing to test themselves:Beag – 60 kgMòr – 127 kg#oldtimestrong#oldschoolstrength #scottishliftingstones #scottishstonesofstrength Because #youcantfakestrength by @camz_grip

Another piece of Scottish strength culture:The Saddlin’ Mare of the Sma’ GlenSaddle the MareWhere the “saddle” is a 99 kg stone and the “mare” is a 2-meter-high boulder. The stone has to be placed on top in such a way that it rests securely and does not slide off.As early as the late 19th century, it was documented that travelers and cattle drovers attempted to “saddle” stones on this rock. Today, the Saddlin’ Mare is regarded as one of Scotland’s most extraordinary traditional stone-lifting challenges.Once again, a huge thank you to my Lady! Without her, I probably would never have even attempted this incredibly cool feat!#oldschoolstrength #oldtimestrong#scottishliftingstones#scottishstonesofstrength Because #youcantfakestrength by @camz_grip
