@mcmasteru is welcoming its largest cohort of PA students. Meet Sydney (@sydney_raduy), a 1st-year student in the @macpaep program.
•
“I couldn’t be more excited to begin my journey in medicine, and be part of the evolving PA profession.
•
My interest in the PA profession began while working as a student clerk alongside PAs. I saw firsthand how PAs are highly skilled clinicians who serve as physician extenders to improve access to quality care. Since then, my experiences in first-response care, global health research, and public policy have reinforced how much I value the versatility and collaborative nature of the PA role.
•
Growing up in a small town on Vancouver Island developed my interest in supporting communities where healthcare resources are limited. As I begin PA school, I am excited to learn, challenge myself, and advocate for the continued growth and recognition of the PA profession across Canada.” 🏔️

More exciting news for PAs in Canada, as @usask recently welcomed their 1st cohort of 20 students into the new Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program (MPAS). This new program will help ease the burden on doctors in the province, and is the first in the province to train PAs.

“When I first learned about the PA profession, it felt like everything fell into place. It was a chance to combine my love for physiology and pharmacology with real hands-on patient care; something I had always hoped for. What means the most to me is the opportunity to give back to small rural communities in Saskatchewan, having grown up in Prairie River myself. I am so grateful and excited for the journey ahead!”

In Ontario, as of April 1st, 2025, PAs will be regulated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
•
PAs must be registered with the CPSO to practice with the title of “Physician Assistant”. Ontario joins the growing list of provinces where PAs are regulated by the respective college of physicians and surgeons.
•
This represents an exciting milestone for the profession in Ontario, which has taken many years of hard work. Thank you to the countless individuals and organizations who helped make this happen.
•
Ontario PAs, what changes are you hoping to see with regulation? What developments do you hope to see next for PAs in Ontario and beyond?

Meet Emily (@_emily.buliung.pa) a PA student at @mcmasteru
•
“My passion for pursuing a career as a PA stems from my deep desire to make a difference in someone else’s life. My sister has a medical disorder requiring frequent access to healthcare. When I think about her and some of the barriers she faces in receiving care, I am proud to be part of a profession that increases access to care and addresses gaps we are all too familiar with.
•
My advice to PA (and other healthcare) students is to always remember and reflect on your “why” as this will get you through tough days and shifts that are bound to happen.”
•
Thank you Emily, for sharing and for your continued advocacy for the PA profession!
