I know I’m late but I’m just getting a chance to channel my thoughts surrounding this night. All I can say is WOW! Thank you God!
Oct 22nd was a night Heaven recorded hearts were touched with the truth, souls were ignited, and a generation was commissioned to share the Gospel, UNAPOLOGETICALLY!

Thank you to everyone who came out and demonstrated your hunger for truth as we concluded our Saved by The Bible series on Biblical Literacy. We pray you were blessed and you go forth to be the blessing the world needs.

Thank you to @preston_n_perry for accepting our invitation and CRUSHING the stage for Christ! Fellowshipping with you and Javan was refreshing as well. This won’t be our last time connecting for sure.

Special thanks to my pastor @drmarkaellis for believing in us and investing in us so greatly. S/o to my team @ucfmthrive the dream team was in FULL EFFECT! Thank you so much! S/o our module coordinator @candicemariecmd who was the impetus for pulling this off! Thank you for your diligent service and labor of love . S/o my wife @sharmaine_alston for being the officer in charge working behind the scenes as well as our charismatic co director @therealkaybates who helped to bring the night together also.

To our great church community @ucfministries thank you so much, so many of our department leaders and their teams were present and/or contributed. Special thanks to media, outreach, worship, and operations teams for helping us pull this together in the sanctuary. We can’t forget Sunday school who sponsored some of our refreshments also.

I’m proud to announce THRIVE has met and exceeded our main ministry goals for the year! This is a testament that Gods hand is on the work of the ministry, and in that we rejoice! Young adults are becoming disciples, making disciples and truly living their best lives THRIVING IN CHRIST!!!

Lastly, I want to say this year was a breakthrough year for our ministry; but we can’t stop now, we have to keep going and keep growing. The job is not finished. Let’s Run it Back!

Until He Returns,
The Tribe is On The Move!

What a 45th birthday! 🥹🎉

To my girls and my family who showered me with breakfast, lunch, and dinner—and everyone who called, texted, sent DMs, videos, voice memos, and posts… BABY, I feel so BLESSED and so LOVED! ❤️
Thank you so much for thinking of me today and making my birthday so special! I tried to respond to everyone, but if I missed you, please know it wasn’t intentional. Every kind word and gesture meant so much to me!
My heart is FULL, and I’m GRATEFUL! Here’s to 45! 🥂✨
Just getting started..more to come! 🫶🏾 by @candicemariecmd

The Five Heartbeats is my favorite movie! I always hoped they would do some sort of reunion concert or something. I am NOT ok! 😩😭 by @candicemariecmd

I've never been to a family reunion but the Vineyard always feels like what I think one might be like...

Enjoyed church this morning and the message from @pastorhjw; and enjoyed seeing people I don't get to see often like these two @michelelez @kikibakerbarnes Love y'all! by @candicemariecmd

This season, especially since my dad passed earlier this year, has been interesting and I've become more aware of some things about myself... some I have embraced and others that I don't like at all. Still, I've tried to be very honest and transparent with people about where I am and why I've taken a step back in many areas. It's hard when you know what serving from a really pure place feels like and the joy and fulfillment that comes with that, to suddenly feeling like you're in a "depart from me I never knew you place". I started feeling as though I was back in this phase that I thought I had grown out of where I'm trying to earn love, earn my worth.

I read a book around this time last year called The Prodigal God. It was so eye opening to me. We always hear the parable of The Prodigal Son being told as though the younger son is the only one lost; I've also heard it spoken of to show the heart of the father; but it's not until I read this book that I realize the older son was also lost. It's a parable about 2 lost sons.

Tim Keller talks about what happened before this, who Jesus was speaking to; the other lost parables he told before this one; how the elder brother, though he stayed with the father, was still lost - close in proximity yet distant from the father's heart; and how the elder brother should have gone after the younger brother.

In contrast, we have a true elder brother in Jesus Christ who loves what the Father loves and goes after us at great cost/sacrifice to himself.

Something I learned reading this that I am constantly reminded of is... we not only have to repent for the things we do wrong, we also have to repent for the things we do right for the wrong reasons.

Religion says, I obey, therefore I am accepted. The gospel says, I am accepted, therefore I obey... Thank you Lord for leading me back to the latter.

I just ran out of gas while waiting in line to get gas at @costco ! 😩🫣🤦🏾‍♀️

All I could do was laugh. Thank you to Brian, the Costco attendant, who came over and before I could say anything asked "did you run out of gas?". And then helped me figure out how to manually put my car in neutral because nothing was working.

I was so amused by this but also grateful that there was enough gas to get me safely to the gas station and someone there to help me when it ran out! 🙌🏾 by @candicemariecmd

Today we celebrate the woman who leads with her whole heart.

Happy Birthday to our Executive Director, Chanceé Lundy! From environmental engineer to published author to the leader of a movement investing millions in Black girls and women across the South, Chanceé brings vision, joy, and purpose to everything she touches.

We are so grateful to do this work alongside you. Wishing you a day as full of love as you pour into others. 🖤✨

My first memory of my dad was meeting him when I was 5 years old. He stopped by the house and at first I was shy, holding on to my mom's leg but by the time he left I was excited to have a dad. Before that day, I didn't know anything was missing. I didn't even know to want a dad. But that day, I was excited to find out that I had one. So excited that I went to my room and drew him a picture. I remember rolling it up and putting it on the shelf and waiting for him to come back. When I was 12, I remember finding it and throwing it away.

I've come to realized over the years that I have rejection and abandonment issues and it's been so interesting to see how it shows up... in insecurity, in food addiction, in a season in 2022 (post pandemic) when I found myself using travel like a drug where I was chasing highs, in constantly questioning my self worth, in feeling unlovable, unwanted, unworthy... I call it all the uns.

I decided when I was 29 (2009) that I wanted to meet my father. He showed up, we talked, I left hopeful. Over the years we communicated a little over phone and text, I went to his birthday party in Alexandria, LA and met some siblings I had never met, he came to visit me in Baton Rouge in 2017 when I bought my house. I took what I could get, whatever he was willing to give, whatever felt safe that I didn't have to beg for as a way of protecting myself from disappointment but I always longed for more.

One night about a year ago, I was feeling kinda down and for some reason I called him. We talked for a while. It was actually a really good conversation. What I would imagine a normal father / daughter conversation might be like. He remembered things that I didn't think he would and I remember feeling like I'm not as insignificant to him as I thought I was. He asked about the guy I was dating when he came to BR in 2017 (he was actually my first boyfriend). I told him it didn't work out. He said, "yea, I figured that", and we laughed.
