✨Doing [stuff] you need to do to survive so you can focus on what makes life worth living✨
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
✨ Nine years ago today, a dare sent me down the pathway from hobbyist to professional photographer. Five years later, to the day, I launched @candlewickstudios1! Hi. My name is John & I am the 28-year old human behind the umbrella-brand that is Candlewick Studios. I call it my "umbrella-brand" because not only is Candlewick my photography, but my artist/band & brand management, my publicity work, my website design & content management, and honestly probably a handful of other things I'm not thinking of at this moment. But to me, Candlewick is more than that. The name comes from a quote (partially misattributed to the Buddha) that says, "One candle may not light up a room but thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle and the light of that candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared." I see my work that way. For the last couple of years, when asked what I do my answer has been "I do whatever sh*t musicians and small businesses need to do to survive so they can do more of what makes life worth living." Everyone I work with is a part of Candlewick Studios in a way -- even you reading this right now. So, I guess, Happy Anniversary, dear Follower. Thank you for being along on this journey. - John C. _____________ ✨Thanks to @forrestleophotos / @alaskaboyyy for the awesome pictures you see in this Post! If you don't Follow him already, go do it! He's absolutely incredible photographer and all-around good person✨ taken in Anchorage, Alaska by @candlewickstudios1

“Getting Better” - a song about healing and growth in the hard times. My heart goes out to anyone who’s on the struggle bus right now. I feel ya. I wrote this with @emilyandersonak and @drewericksonarts (by the way, Drew has started teaching guitar and songwriting lessons and producing tracks! Check him out! And Emily has a bangin Pa🌳on.) It’s one of my fave songs I’ve written. Video by @jerzyellannaphoto at The Creekbend Cafe in Hope, AK. Also, fun fact: the necklace I’m wearing was made by @art_by_lindsay_horning and the earrings were made locally as well by Sarah Sterns. #singersongwriter #mentalhealth taken in Creekbend Company by @candlewickstudios1

When John gets the shots I craaaave! So many hours go into sourcing, planning, and prepping for content nights it's insane. Between finding the right pieces, storing them, and organizing them constantly it's all apart of the process of making these sets come to life 😍✨ @candlewickstudios1 sent out everyone's galleries and they are sooooo goooood!! by @candlewickstudios1

Forest Fair 2026!!! Thank you to @candlewickstudios1 for the awesome pics! (awesome pics from @take_the_shot_expeditions coming as well!!! So grateful!) I got to play the Mainstage at Forest Fair this year! And hands free singing my own songs! It was so special. Can’t wait for more of that. As much as I love being 2/3rds of the band it’s amazing to just sing and dance around!! Thank you to @davidkrepel on bass - see slide 3. And @mas.audios on guitar - see slide 5. And James Glover on drums (not pictured because he was so incredible that the camera could not capture the full glory. Thank you to @girdwoodforestfair for having us. 😊 #singersongwriter #originalmusic taken in Girdwood Forest Fair by @candlewickstudios1

We have so much fun playing together and playing with/for you and we can’t wait to do it some more! 🥰 You guys were such a fun crowd! Our winter goal is to play at least one Alaska show per month that we’re really excited about. ✨️👀Any ideas?👀✨️ These videos were taken by @jerzyellannaphoto at the @creekbendcafe in Hope, Alaska. And fun fact: the audio is unedited, live audio straight from whatever camera they were using! Pretty rad. Nowadays we have @davidkrepel on bass, @makaylakelly1933 singing soprano, Hillary Rowbotham singing alto, my feet on the drums, my hands on the guitar, and my face on vocals 😆. I made this reel 🤓 but big shout out to @_seanharber_ for adding the fades. I was about to make y’all raw dog it without any finishing touches. #singersongwriter #livemusic #folkpop taken in Creekbend Company by @candlewickstudios1
