Farhan akhtar playing ravi shankar in a beatles film wasn’t on my 2026 bingo card.
but if you know how george harrison became his student — you know this story is bigger than a cameo.
most people think the beatles discovered india.

history says otherwise.
would you watch this biopic?

Can talent survive alone? Maybe. But great art rarely does.
From lyrics and screenplays to comedy and cinema, Varun Grover talks about something artists often underestimate: community. The people who challenge your ideas, open doors, collaborate, and remind you why you started creating.
Because sometimes, the right people can change the way you create.
Part 2 of our conversation. 🎬

Your next shoot doesn't need another Pinterest board. It needs better references. 🎬

Comment "Visuals" and will DM you the entire deck 📬

Before you lock your look, lighting, framing or production design, check these 5 cinematic goldmines:
ShotDeck • FilmGrab • Eye Candy • MovieStillsDB • Shot.Cafe
From searchable HD frames and meticulously tagged cinematography references to curated film stills and moodboard inspiration, these are the kind of resources you want in your pre-production toolkit.
Save this before your next film shoot, short film, music video or commercial.
And send it to the DOP who is going to ask, “reference hai?” 😂

“What should the new generation do with art?”
Maybe the answer is: nobody gets to decide that for them.
We asked Varun Grover—writer, lyricist, filmmaker and stand-up comedian—and his take is refreshingly simple: let artists find their own voice, their own questions, and their own way of creating.
No rulebook.
No formula.
Just make, question, experiment.
Part 1 of our conversation with Varun Grover. 🎬
What do you think the new generation should do with art? 👇

India just picked a Marathi film for the 2027 Oscars — and most of the internet still hasn’t heard of it. 👀
Gondhal 🇮🇳 — Marathi cinema, folk culture, ritual, storytelling and a thriller colliding on one screen.
Regional cinema is having a moment.
Are you paying attention?

Maybe a star isn't always the biggest selling point.
Hanuman Ansh reportedly opened at just ₹10 lakh—and after a slow first two weeks, the film found its audience through word of mouth and kept growing. By Day 42, it had crossed ₹300 crore worldwide.
No massive star vehicle.
No ₹100-crore opening.
Just a story that found the right audience.
And that's the part of the Indian box office we often forget:
Face value can bring people to the theatre.
But a good story can bring them back—and bring their friends with them.
Sometimes, the audience doesn't need a superstar to create a blockbuster.
They just need a reason to care.
What do you think—are we underestimating the power of content + word of mouth in Indian cinema? 👇
Share this with someone who still believes only star power sells tickets.

What does a festival give you beyond a selection?

For @meharmalhotrafilm it was more than seeing "Shadows of the Moonless Nights"- @shadowsofthemoonlessnightsfilm reach the Cannes Film Festival.

It was the people she met, the conversations she had, the cinema she discovered, and the perspective she brought back with her.

Because festivals aren't just about red carpets and laurels.

They're about community, exchange, learning and finding people who understand why you make what you make.

We asked Meher what the festival and community meant to her—and this is what she had to say.

And that's exactly the kind of ecosystem we're trying to build at CANI.

Sometimes a festival changes your film. A community can change your journey.

Follow CANI for more stories from filmmakers, artists and storytellers building the future of Indian cinema.

Share this with a filmmaker who's dreaming about their first festival selection.

What do festivals mean to you?
Is it the films you discover, the conversations after the screening, the strangers who become friends—or simply finding a room full of people who speak the same creative language?
For some, a festival is a celebration of cinema. For others, it's where ideas, artists and communities collide.
We asked the audience what festivals and community mean to them.
The answers were different. The feeling was surprisingly similar.
Because sometimes, the most important thing you take home from a festival isn't a film.
It's a person. A conversation. An idea.
