🌱Medical C@nn@bis Patient Guide

🔹 1. The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) Your Body’s Natural Balance Keeper.

The human body has a biological system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which helps regulate:

Sleep

Pain

Inflammation

Mood

Appetite

Immune function

Cannabinoids from the cannabis plant (like THC and CBD) interact with this system — particularly with CB1 and CB2 receptors — to help support balance (homeostasis) in the body.

📌 Did you know? The body also produces its own cannabinoids (called endocannabinoids), such as anandamide, which is linked to feelings of wellbeing.

🔹 2. Cannabinoids: More Than Just THC and CBD

Cannabis contains over 100 cannabinoids, each with unique potential effects. Here's a simple breakdown:

Cannabinoid Possible Effects Non-Psychoactive?

THC (Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol) Pain relief, appetite stimulation, relaxation ❌
CBD (Cannabidiol) Anti-inflammatory, anxiety reduction, seizure control ✅
CBG (Cannabigerol) May help with inflammation, focus, and digestion ✅
CBC (Cannabichromene) Anti-inflammatory, supports mood ✅
THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin) Appetite suppressant, energy boost ❌️

📚 Learning Tip: Not everyone responds the same to each cannabinoid — personal biochemistry plays a big role.

🔹 3. Terpenes: The aroma and effects
Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in many plants including cannabis. They don’t just provide smell; they may also contribute to therapeutic effects.

Terpene Smell Possible Benefits

Myrcene -earthy, musky sedative, muscle relaxant
Limonene- Citrus uplifting, stress relief
Linalool -Floral, lavender calming, anti-anxiety
caryophyllene- peppery, spicy anti-inflammatory, interacts with CB2 receptors

🧠 Entourage Effect: Terpenes and cannabinoids may work together to enhance effects.
