Rabab Khamis’ SAMA will World Premiere at the upcoming Doha Film Festival (Nov. 19-27), alongside 15 titles selected for the International Feature Competition! 🇵🇸🙌 The project was presented in-progress at Cannes Docs - Marché du Film 2025, as part of the @palfilminstitute-hosted Palestinian Showcase of Docs-in-Progress, where it received a Special Mention from @chickeneggfilms 🥚✨ 🔎 SAMA (سما) By Rabab Khamis Produced by Laura Nikolov (Coorigines Production, France) & Rashid Masharawi (Masharawi Fund for Films and Filmmakers in Gaza), in coproduction with Metafora Production Palestine, France, Qatar I 65’ I 2026 Sama, ten years old, fled northern Gaza with her family to Deir al-Balah. She now lives in a tent with her mother and her six brothers and sisters. Every morning, she walks through the streets and markets searching for plastic and cardboard, which she sells as fuel. Despite everything, she still hopes to be reunited with her father, who remained in Gaza City, for the war to end, and for the day she can return to school. We at Cannes Docs - Marché du Film are SO PROUD and absolutely over the moon to be receiving the 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 at the upcoming 2026 𝐈𝐃𝐀 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬, on Dec. 4th in L.A. ✨ The Amicus Award is presented to individuals or organizations in recognition of their work supporting the needs of the nonfiction media landscape, and it comes as a perfectly unexpected and immensely rewarding acknowledgment of our achievements. So for this, a thousand thank yous, @idaorg! 🙏 Headed by Pierre-Alexis Chevit since 2015, Cannes Docs operates under the leadership of @marchedufilm’s Executive Director Guillaume Esmiol, and is organized by the extraordinarily dedicated core team members @bab2tt2, @rittanova & @k100.dra. Thanks, you guys! =) A bit of history: Cannes Docs (then Doc Corner) was initiated back in 2012 by the visionary trio Jérôme Paillard, @bergeron_julie and Madeline Robert – with the key input of @nicoleguillemet –, as a concrete response to the clear need for a documentary-dedicated space within the Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes, in the context of the accelerating extension of the doc industry. Since then, the program has been able to steadily grow and establish itself thanks to crucial supporters such as the @fordfoundation (via JustFilms, then steered by the great Cara Mertes), @ieftf_org (𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶 @marcoorsini, @liannellewey & team), and many, many more who believed in Cannes Docs – most of which are mentioned here below! 🌟 This Amicus Award is to be shared with all of you, dear friends, colleagues & allies from this beautifully unique doc community, who have been tirelessly standing up for the documentary genre, at Cannes Docs and everywhere else too! Their children were taken by European settlers and forced to work as servants. A century later, a young Selk’nam descendant, driven by a painful family history, makes the journey back to her ancestral territory to prove that they are not extinct. #CannesDocs❤️Festivals! Just a few days away from #DOCanarias, the International Non-Fiction Film Festival taking place in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, Canary Islands, September 8-12! DOCanarias is conceived as a space for non-fiction films that brings stories from Africa and Latin America, articulating a distinct and original cinematic language of reality – as developed already over 20 years through the former MiradasDoc festival @miradasdoc.idff and the Miradas AfroIndígenas project incubator @miradasafroincubadora. This edition’s main focal points include an honorary award for Mexican-Salvadorian filmmaker Tatiana Huezo, as well as a special focus on Cape Verde 🇨🇻, with the screenings of 'Amilcar', by @migueleek, and of 'We, People Of The Islands', by Elson Santos & @alaradesousa (an @ieftf_org curated Spotligthed Project at Cannes Docs back in 2021!). The jury for the int’l features comp includes Johanné Gómez Terrero @johannegomezterrero, Noé Pineda & Vanessa Cuervo @banessi. Among the international docs competition feature 2 films which premiered @festivaldecannes 2026! Christophe Dimitri Réveille’s 'Che Guevara: The Last Companions' @pentacle_films, and Juan Cabral & Santiago Franco’s 'The Match'. Concurrently to the festival will take place the 10th Afrolatam Forum, bringing together filmmakers, producers, funding bodies, labs, and various institutions to foster dialogue on non-fiction cinema from the #GlobalSouth, aiming to identify collaborative models that will shape the future of the Afro-Indigenous film industry and to facilitate cooperation networks spanning the Atlantic. #CannesDocs❤️Festivals! DokuFest is 25! ✨ Kosovo’s one and only International Documentary and Short Film Festival is back in its hometown Prizren, August 7-15, 2026. In addition to the 104 films screened across the 8 competitive sections, some festival highlights include: the great Mark Cousins (with the presentation of the 60s and 80s chapters of 'The Story of Documentary Film'); A Spotlight Programme on acclaimed filmmaker @sophiefiennesofficial (in her presence); An @agnes.varda-dedicated 'Masters of Shorts' program; The 'View from the World' section, with some of the best docs from the festival circuit; the three-film exploration of Sergei Parajanov, one of cinema’s most visionary voices; The adventurous and genre-defying 'Fiction/Non-Fiction' program; Also worth noting: The 'Focus Ireland' program 🇮🇪, with 5 films exploring the political, social, and cultural forces shaping contemporary Ireland; The 'Blast From the Past' programme (x @lumbardhi); A whole new immersive VR program; The DokuKids screenings and workshops, for children aged 6-14; The DokuTalk series, composed of 6 conversations, will offer a unique space where filmmakers, thinkers and audiences continue the conversations that begin with the films; The Short Film Forum, presenting 10 short film projects from 🇽🇰, 🇦🇱, 🇲🇰, 🇲🇪 and 🇧🇬 Last but not least, the DokuNights extravaganza will include shows by @tiranatironaallstars, @richii_chan_, @tamtam_pda, @amin_diamin, @dontfkwithdisco, Jackal @agoncakalli, @lluni96, Marshall Jungle @asdrenzogai, @liburn_jupolli, @konduku, @carlh.aop & @bufiman So many super great friends of Cannes Docs will be around this year, it’s crazy!
