Every Tuesday I am celebrating actors I love!

Today I am spotlighting B.K. Cannon, an actress whose bright smile and seemingly boundless energy immediately grab your attention. The first thing I remember B.K. from was a recurring role on SWITCHED AT BIRTH, but she already had a nice resume of credits before that- and has built on it since. She has a wicked sense of humor I enjoy and her heart for philanthropy and giving back makes her one I always root for. Coincidentally, it’s also her birthday today… so let’s show her some love!

I asked B.K. a few questions and here is what she had to say:

WHAT IS A MEMORABLE AUDITION STORY YOU HAVE?
My very first one! It was for a show that was filming in Hawai’i (my home state) and they needed 3 local actors for recurring guest spots. It was my first professional acting audition, I was 13, and I was thrilled and terrified all at the same time. The Director (D.J. MacHale) asked me to sit in a chair and act like I was in a plane that was crashing. I didn’t know what to do other than go all in, so that’s what I did. Afterward, I cried to my mom in the car about how big of a fool I must have looked to everyone. She assured me that wasn’t true. And she was right, I booked it! It was a good acting lesson early on: if it feels uncomfortable, it doesn’t mean it’s not good!

WHAT ROLE OR PROJECT THAT YOU’VE DONE ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
I am so very proud of the work I was a part of in Season 2 of Why Women Kill on Paramount Plus. Not only was it a dream to work on a Marc Cherry project (a period piece!), but I went to set every day so excited to LEARN. From the other actors I got to play with, the Directors, the crew, anyone I could talk to, I did! Carrying the responsibility of the story as a Series Regular was fulfilling on so many levels. Plus, we were one of the first shows back to production after COVID hit, so we were real guinea pigs when it came to figuring out the balance between safety protocols and the creative process.
