#TBT to simpler times when we all came together to celebrate our brother Son of SOUL at 416 Snackbar, circa 2019 if I'm not mistaken. These are the vibes you can expect when we do it all again on Sunday, December 14 at @bsmt254toronto with some of the very same DJ's and party people you see in this clip. Were you at this event? What are some of your favorite memories from it? Will you be at the next event? Leave a comment below, and we hope to see your face in the place ✌🏽

Sincerely
The @celebrating_son_of_soul Team

I haven’t posted on IG in a long time, but I’ll give up a square for my brother Masimba Kadzirange, a once in a lifetime kind of human being.
The city lost a giant when he passed.
I miss my brother.
The man’s music knowledge was incredible and his Simpsons knowledge was top tier. Every one he touched knew they were encountering someone special. He threw a Birthday Jam every December called The Coolout. I’ve hosted a couple of them and I’ll be touching the mic again for this one, along with some other greats in the city. So in honour of what would have been his 55th year, we are celebrating on Sunday December 14th with some of the city’s best selectors. Its a free event.

If you knew Sims, heard him play, ate with him, vibed with him, talked music, life or The Simpsons with him, we would love to see you come out and help us honour the legend and celebrate our brother. If you didn’t know him, come and see what The Coolout is all about.

Check the @celebrating_son_of_soul page for the Eventbrite link with all of the party info.

[[ RSVP link in bio ]]

On Sunday, December 14th from 3-9pm at 254 Lansdowne: CONTXT (main floor) + BSMT 254 (downstairs) we celebrate our brother Masimba for what would have been his 55th birthday with a lineup of top notch DJ’s including: Turnstylez, P Plus, Mel Boogie, Jason Palma, Paul E Lopes, Dave Campbell, Ms.MoveOnUp, Gene King, O.S.U.M, Serious, DJ Ki, Uncle Funke, Fase, King Curtis, Agile Big Jacks, DJ Dalia, Alister Johnson + More TBA.

Hosts - Benzo, JohnBronski, Hotstepper, CAP

This is a FREE event. Expect Sims vibes of the highest order taken in BSMT 254 by @cap416

#blackouttuesday Stopped numerous times. Slapped in the face, in custody, accused of stealing bikes at 16. I wasnt stealing. Strip searched at 18, for suspicion of stealing. Rights violated. I wasnt stealing. Theres more but it fucking enrages me to talk about. So this for all my friends who say ‘but Carl, you’re a nice guy, why would they do that?’ Its because I’m black. Thats all. Thats it. One reason. by @cap416

January 1, 2018
I dont really know how to start this...I’ve chatted with a few people here and there about this idea, it bubbled up in my mind, then faded, then came back again. And truthfully, I just like the way it sounds. So I registered the name and bought domain names in September and I guess since then I’ve been debating with myself mentally about whether it was the right time? Whether the conditions were perfect? Where was the money going to come from? Was the name ok or is it super corny? Does anybody really care about gratitude? Is it too close to sounding like thanksgiving? Why do I want to do this? Then I had a conversation early yesterday morning that made me think, I'd like to see what can happen, rather then wonder what might happen.

So what is Thanksliving, I guess for me it was self explanatory, living with gratitude, being thankful and appreciative. I was thinking Humans of New York but with stories surrounding gratitude. Why? I think gratitude is a great energy to recognize for even the smallest and simplest things in life. So I'm launching this boat into the universe, with a goal of telling 100 stories of gratitude. Its not a perfect boat and I'm going to be adjusting the sails along the way, but I'm looking forward to see what could happen in 2018.

I'm going to need your help, so at some point I will reach out to you and ask you to meet me for a quick chat and a photo, if this interests you in any way then reply to that message positively or feel free to reach out to me if I'm taking too long to get to you. I think thats it, i've been looking at the draft of this post for long enough now, lets see where this goes.
I wish everyone a blessed and prosperous 2018. Happy New Year.
