✨ Getting to Know Catherine Arturi Parilla

We’re bringing this one back from the archives for those who are new here and may not know Catherine yet.

Catherine is a storyteller at heart, but beyond her writing and teaching, she’s full of adventure and curiosity. She’s soared in a hot air balloon, navigated white-water rapids, and explored Anasazi caves, always embracing new experiences with enthusiasm.

When she’s not exploring, Catherine enjoys hiking in new places, experimenting with baking and new recipes, solving Sudoku puzzles, and, of course, reading. There’s always a story waiting to capture her imagination.

Her life is a blend of adventure, creativity, and curiosity, both on the page and off. ✨

What inspired Catherine to write Circus?

While teaching, Catherine was surrounded by young women caught up in the romantic ideals society often places before us: the knight who will appear, the frog who will turn into a prince, and the promise of a fairy-tale life.

But then life happens, and some of those balloons pop. Catherine began to see the circus as a metaphor for life itself: the acts, the tricks, the surprises, and the balancing acts we perform as we try to navigate it all.

Life may become more realistic as we grow, but that doesn’t make it any less wonderful. And maybe there’s something beautiful about having the chance to be idealistic when we’re young.
