Brittany Hernandez was just 10 years old when she began helping care for the feral cats around her neighborhood. Now, she will graduate from CFCC’s Veterinary Medical Technology program at the end of this month and is preparing to begin her career as a Registered Veterinary Technician.

“I am the first college graduate of my household,” Hernandez said. “It’s something I’m really proud of.”

Here's a preview of some of the industry professionals joining CFCC's film program this fall!

John "Fergy" Ferguson brings more than 50 years of experience, with credits including Bull Durham, Cinderella Man, The Black Phone, Manhunter, and the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Bill Davis built a career spanning over four decades as an art director and production designer on projects including October Sky, Dawson’s Creek, One Tree Hill, and Stranger Things, earning a Primetime Emmy nomination along the way.

Sydney Penny is known for her roles in The Thorn Birds, Pale Rider, All My Children, and Santa Barbara, for which she received multiple Daytime Emmy nominations.

CFCC Culinary Arts students recently traveled to The Hackney in Washington, NC, for a special collaboration with Executive Chef Jamie Davis, a James Beard Best Chef Southeast nominee. Students worked alongside Chef Davis and the restaurant’s culinary team to prepare three passed appetizers and five courses featuring scallops, shrimp, lobster, duck confit, crab, and red snapper.

For CFCC Culinary Arts Program Director Chef Jaime Chadwick, the trip was a little extra special. A Washington, NC, native, she was invited by Chef Davis to bring her students to The Hackney, giving them the chance to cook in one of the state’s most celebrated restaurants while returning to her hometown. by @capefearcc

CFCC Dental Hygiene and Nursing students recently participated in an interprofessional education (IPE) simulation. They worked together to respond to patients experiencing medical emergencies during routine dental cleanings.

Through a series of patient scenarios, students assessed patients, provided appropriate care, and practiced communication across healthcare disciplines. Dental Hygiene and Nursing students participate in a simulated medical emergency with a patient mannequin in a healthcare lab. by @capefearcc

Through its LifeCare Scholars program, @lcflifecare has created a pathway for recent nursing graduates to begin their careers in hospice and palliative care. The organization has hired several graduates from CFCC's Associate Degree Nursing program.

Among those graduates are Aretta Williams and Faith Hommel, who joined Lower Cape Fear LifeCare earlier this year.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for CFCC's Trade Up Event at North Campus! It was a great afternoon of career exploration, hands-on activities, and connecting with local employers. ⚙️🔍

We're especially grateful to the employers and industry partners who participated and shared their time and expertise with attendees. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success!
