🌊TIME TO QUALIFY🌊

The first of the Cape Town qualifiers will be held this Sunday, the 18th of October at The FISH HOEK BEACH SPORTS CLUB. This is not just about qualifying but about getting that training in and getting qualified sooner rather than later, with other paddlers and safety around. It is also a great opportunity for those paddlers doing the CPC Lite to get valuable training in for race day.

Here are the details:
👉🏽 DATE: SUNDAY 18TH OCTOBER
👉🏽 VENUE: FISH HOEK BEACH SPORTS CLUB
👉🏽 REGISTRATION: 5:30 - 6:30 -
👉🏽 ENTRY FEE: R150 - ON THE DAY
👉🏽 DISTANCE: +/- 30KM

🌊QUALIFIERS🌊

Headed into October, it signals the start of the qualifiers.👉🏽

Kicking off on Sunday the 18th of October, the Cape Town qualifiers get underway at Fish Hoek Beach Sports club, ahead of @petemarlinsurfski which also serves as a qualifier in East London. There will also be qualifiers held in Durban, with those details being made available shortly. We’ll keep you posted!

The qualifiers are fantastic training not only for the STBB Cape Point Challenge, but the CPC Lite too. So mark the calendar and get those qualifiers in the bag.

The history and story of the Cape Point Challenge. Garth is a seasoned Cape Point Challenge veteran who has completed 23 races, and knows a thing or two about the history of the race.

🌊 Ian Black 🌊

Ian has completed 17 races and is our race director. He will be talking about qualifying for race day, and the great opportunity the qualifiers present to be prepared for whatever race day throws at you.

🌊 Kenny Rice 🌊

Previous winner and elite athlete, Kenny has completed 16 Cape Point Challenges. He knows a thing or two about training and preparation, and will bring his insights to the info evening.

🌊 Rob Mousley 🌊

Rob is our on land safety officer, and his attention to detail and passion for the race and the sport of surfski paddling is evident in his commitment to having safety of the paddlers at the forefront of race day. 🚤SAFETY🚤

A vital aspect of race day remains the safety of each and every paddler on the water. We are fortunate enough to have the support of the NSRI, Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club and a host of privately owned boats who come together to ensure that on water safety is covered and planned down to the tee.

This is another key element that makes this race possible, despite the challenges of the race course, and the very nature of its challenging ocean racing route.

We remain committed to delivering a safe race day, that ensures all paddlers are looked after, with the support of our incredible safety partners.✊🏽

📝RACE HISTORY📝

Since its inception in 1980, the Cape Point Challenge has stood out amongst surfski races as one of the most gruelling, one day paddling endurance challenges in the world. When we talk about iconic in relation to the Cape Point Challenge it is with good reason. Originally it was predominantly a surf lifesaving event, which alternated years with the famous Port Elizabeth to East London surf ski race.

Over more than four decades, competitors have experienced everything from glassy seas and classic downwind runs to fierce north-westerly storms, powerful south-easterly winds and massive Atlantic swells. These ever-changing conditions have cemented the Cape Point Challenge’s reputation as one of the world’s premier ocean paddling races. With the nature of this event, there have been some incredible race moments over the years, and while the accolades of the winners may stand out initially it is the courage and heart of every single paddler who has tackled this challenge who make it the very special event that it is.
