πŸ“: District Six

Out and about, finding some nice view points of the city, I came across this little one. The amount of times I had to jump around to get a decent photo, this cat just wanted nose boops and kept coming towards me. taken in District Six by @capetown_cats

I used to come across this sweet cat often when going home from university. A combination of driving a lot more and taking different routes led to not seeing it much, although I would look as I passed by on occasion. The other day I was walking by, saw another cat and crouched down to pet it. Shortly after I was greeted once again by this gorgeous and story friendly fellow.

Apparently torties are usually female and if they are male, they're sterile. An interesting fact. I think this one's a Tortie but I could be wrong. Anyway, enjoy these lovely shots.

Have come across this little one sitting on the wall a few times. One time the owner arrived home and I asked his name, Georgie! A Greek name, the man did have an accent but I couldn't quite tell where he was from. Georgie does suit this sweet one though I think.

Came across this pretty cat on a Sunday stroll through the city. Didn't mind me too much, it was preoccupied by some other scent in the grass. Eventually scuttled away when someone passed by, walking their dog.

After seeing this one, dozens started coming out of the woodwork, the Bo-Kaap has a huge population of interesting looking cats. Will need to go back sometime to grab some more photos.

This little one was so skittish until I went "pspspsps", then it turned into the sweetest most affectionate kitty, following me down the road begging for scritches and scratches.

Swipe to see the power of the pspspsps.

Cat Spotted!

🏷️: ???

🐈: Medium-haired Mask & Mantle Black and White Bicolour

πŸ‘οΈ: Gold

πŸ“: Observatory

Came across this little one on an early rainy morning a few days back. When I saw the collar I was excited I'd find a name, but it was just some kind of airtag or tracker thingy.

Anyway, this one was very friendly and sweet. When it's raining like this, I don't come across cats as often, so it was a nice surprise.

Unfortunately I was running late for work so I couldn't stay long. taken in Observatory, Cape Town by @capetown_cats

This cat was sitting on the steps of the now closed building of "A Touch of Madness". Once a quirky fun place to hang out and a spot for legendary musicians to jam, now just a husk painted black and boarded up. Interested to see what'll happen to the building, but for now... nothing much.

There were 3 cats sitting on the steps, this one was the least afraid, the others dashed away when they saw me. taken in Observatory, Cape Town by @capetown_cats

Cat Spotted!

🏷️: ???

🐈: Shorthair Black & White Spotted

πŸ‘οΈ: Gold

πŸ“: Woodstock

Came across this one perched on the wall alongside a ginger friend. Took me a second to see it through the tree, it was my dog that drew my attention to the cat.

This cats coat is borderline tuxedo, but I thought for variation let's say "white spotted".

The dog is probably why it looks so alarmed. taken in Woodstock, Cape Town by @capetown_cats

To the cat on Kitchener Road.

I stopped seeing you a while ago and I find myself sometimes wondering where you went. You were there when I first explored Woodstock, every day, whether I was walking to work or cycling to university, you'd watch as I climbed that hill. There was experience behind your eyes and it seemed as if you'd seen brighter days. You weren't a particularly friendly cat, I'm not sure if it was your age or one too many bad experiences with passersby, but you rarely scurried away.

Then, one day, you were gone and as I climb that now familiar hill, I turn to the spot you once were and think of you.

For all I know, you and your owner could've moved away and now you're overlooking another road, watching people come and go.

To the cat on Kitchener, wherever you may be, I will remember you. You were one of my first impressions of Woodstock and you'll continue to live on in my memory, forever associated with that road.

🐈: Shorthair Black and White Tuxedo

I've had a few encounters with this pretty cat. Not overly affectionate but isn't skittish like the cats I often see around the area. I love the spotty tuxedo markings, especially on its left eye.

This time I captured it lounging on a driveway one late afternoon, watching the traffic go by. taken in Observatory, Cape Town by @capetown_cats

Cat spotted!

🏷️: Willow

🐈: Shorthair Ginger and White Bicolour Mackerel Tabby

πŸ‘οΈ: Green

πŸ“: Bridgetown, Athlone

Little Willow is one of the sweetest cats I've come across. She's quite skittish, but when she warms up to you she'll be asking for love every 5 minutes. Willow had kittens when she was 6 months old so she's quite small and stubby.

It's uncommon for a cat with a ginger coat to be female, something like 1/5 ginger cats will be female. It's got to do with the orange gene being exclusive to the X chromosome, so females need to not only have the gene but have it twice to have a ginger colour. So Willow here is on the rarer side, in terms of her coat.

Anyway, she's very sweet and officially the first 2026 spotting since the last cat I posted was captured in 2025. taken in Bridgetown - Athlone - Cape Town by @capetown_cats
