Yayoi Kusama
1929–2026

The art world mourns the passing of legendary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.

One of the most influential voices in contemporary art, Kusama developed an artistic language unmistakably her own, engaging with themes of repetition, infinity, life, death and obsession.

Her extraordinary legacy will continue to resonate for generations to come.

Rest in peace, Yayoi Kusama.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sliman Mansour (1947–2026), one of the most significant voices in Palestinian art.

For decades, his work carried the memory, land, identity, resilience of Palestine, through images that became deeply rooted in its cultural and artistic history.

Through his art, he preserved stories, symbols and a profound connection to homeland that will continue to resonate across generations.

Contemporary Art Platform extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, fellow artists and the Palestinian cultural community.

Rest in peace, Sliman Mansour 🙏 by @capkuwait

A dialogue across time.

In 1937, Pablo Picasso created Guernica in response to the bombing of the Basque town during the Spanish Civil War. The monumental painting, which became one of the most powerful artistic statements against the horrors of war, was completed in approximately 35 days.

Nearly ninety years later, students of Bayan High School (@bayan4art)- Narjes Al Shareef, Afnan Jumah, Bedour Al Gallaf and Fetouh Al Matouk, turned to Guernica for inspiration while creating their collaborative work for CAP’s Heroes of the Nation exhibition.

They started working during a period of heightened regional conflict that deeply affected life in Kuwait. Through Picasso’s visual language, the students reflected on their own experience of tension, fear and instability, transforming these emotions into a work about resilience and hope.

And there is another remarkable parallel: their work, too, took approximately 35 days to complete.

Different generations. Different places. Different histories. Yet art becomes a shared language through which difficult moments can be witnessed, processed and remembered.

The exhibition is on view @capkuwait.

In memory of Sami Mohammad (@samimohammadart), we revisit his words from 2019

From Displacement (الرحيل), presented at Contemporary Art Platform, Kuwait, in March 2019.

A reflection on his artistic journey, his continuous experimentation, his belief that art “is always evolving and has no limits.”

It is with a heavy heart that we received the news of the passing of Sami Mohammad, one of Kuwait’s most significant and influential artists.

CAP had the privilege of sharing a long-standing relationship with Sami Mohammad over many years. In 2015, we were honored to present a retrospective exhibition of his work at Contemporary Art Platform, celebrating his remarkable artistic journey and contribution to the cultural history of Kuwait.

Our relationship with Sami continued long beyond the exhibition, through conversations, collaborations and a shared commitment to art.

We will remember Sami not only through the extraordinary body of work he leaves behind, but also through the many memories, conversations and moments we were fortunate to share with him.

Our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and the entire artistic and cultural community of Kuwait.

The same poem, across different walls and different places.

The entrance to the Arsenale at the Venice Biennale (@labiennale) opens with the words of the late Palestinian poet Refaat Alareer and his poem If I Must Die.

Last October, the same poem was presented at Contemporary Art Platform as part of the exhibition Resistance for Hope. Curated by Mona Huneidi (@mhuneidi), the installation If I Must Die You Must Live featured delicate paper kites representing Gaza’s journalists who were targeted and killed. Inspired by Alareer’s moving poem, the installation paid tribute to those who carried the truth through their words and images.

Seeing Alareer’s words continue to resonate in different spaces is a powerful reminder of how poetry travels beyond borders, carrying memory, loss, resistance and hope.

The virtual tour of Resistance for Hope is now available on CAP website, offering the opportunity to revisit the exhibition and explore it in full.
