Ideally situated between hills and the sea, the small town of Alcobaça enjoys a pleasant, restful climate.
As visitors stroll through its streets, they are captivated by the old-world charm of the facades, featuring quintessential Portuguese architecture, as well as the town’s historic shops, cafés, and restaurants.
While its magnificent, imposing Cistercian monastery has earned it significant historical renown, Alcobaça is also celebrated for its iconic « chita » a cotton fabric printed with colorful floral patterns, as well as its high-quality ceramics, delicious apples, and traditional convent-style pastries, crafted according to age-old monastic recipes.

The welcoming and peaceful town of Alcobaça, located in west-central Portugal, owes its renown in particular to the monumental Monastery of Santa Maria, a masterpiece of Cistercian Gothic architecture.
Founded in the 12th century, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1989.
Visitors can admire the magnificent intricately carved tombs of Inês and Pedro, the famous ill-fated lovers of Portuguese history, as well as a remarkable collection of 17th- and 18th-century polychrome statues made of wood or terracotta.
