Five years ago today I picked up the baby Captain at the Kansas City airport. It was an emotional day to say the least. After meeting captain for the first time I went into the bathroom and thought it weird that there were no urinals. Whilst in the stall I realized I was in the women’s bathroom. I of course thought I’d be arrested for being in the women’s bathroom in Kansas. My husband said everyone probably thought I was a woman. Next, Captain had a huge adoring crowd around him in the airport when a giant bug crawled out of my hair because I had just been outside on the airport lawn hoping Captain would also use the bathroom. I was mortified. When the airplane was landing in Denver, instead of touchdown it suddenly took back off up into the air aborting the landing. The flight attendant sprang into action passing out bags to the people around me who began to hurl. Captain and I were unfazed. Lastly, It was over 100° in Denver and my car had been parked in the sun all day. On this most important day the air conditioner decided to not work. I drove on the highway to Boulder with all the windows down and baby Captain screaming the entire way. I was convinced that I was cooking my new baby. My husband met me on the lawn with cold wet towels. Terrifying.
I didn’t get arrested. Nobody cared about the bug that crawled out of my hair. The plane safely landed and the air conditioning has been fixed.
Since gotcha day captain has lived a happy dog’s life. He’s enjoyed playdates, sleepovers, vacations, picnics, dinner parties, birthday parties and an abundance of toys and treats. Captain has plush dog beds, a luxurious sweater collection, vast amounts of exercise, attention, affection and love. We are thankful for all his humans and fur friends.
I can’t believe that I have posted a picture of The Captain every day for five years. Thank you for all the love and support. I am now changing to an intermittent format. Trust that The Captain is happy and well, living his best life in Colorado.
