What a great way to end a nice stretch of trips yesterday. Although every trip has been great, it’s hard to top putting one of your childhood friends and their family on the fish!

Whitney and I grew up together, and her son MB has recently became obsessed with fishing. Her Dad Ron reached out to me to set everything up to talk about what we could catch and when. Our first day that was on the books had to be rescheduled due to weather. I was bummed because we were slamming fish. I told Ron the bite was so good I think it will carry on into July. Thankfully I was right! They had an action packed day with multiple double ups, triple ups, and even a quadruple up of trout and redfish (pic 2). We were able to land multi species a variety of ways. Cant really ask for much more. I don’t know if Whitney and Michael know what they are in for, because MB is a great angler for his age. They better set up a separate account for his fishing needs, because I can one attest to how expensive this addiction is. Even though the day was action packed the highlight was definitely watching MB land a monster redfish that measured out exactly 40” on the dot. He did a perfect job releasing her after a long fight, and she swam off strong. I love teaching anyone everything I know about fishing, but it’s just another level when it comes to kids that are eager to learn. When you add the fact it’s one of your friend’s kids it just hits even harder. Can’t wait to have them on the boat again! taken in Gulfport, Mississippi by @captkylejohnson

Watched a cork sit in place for a while on the flats. I always pick up any trash I see out there. This one had a surprise 😂 taken in Chandeleur Islands by @captkylejohnson

Not affiliated with Dexter. I just use what works and last. Best value and trusted by more people in the industry than any other brand. I’ll take a $40 knife lasting 7 years all day long. taken in Biloxi, Mississippi by @captkylejohnson

The Valley Hoo colored Down South Lures Super Model has been an absolute work horse for us. It has not only been producing stupid numbers, but also very nice quality trout. They are honed in on purple lately and especially this color specifically. It has performed in tea stained colored water as well as trout green water the best. As long as the water has some good clarity to it they have been all over it. Despite the stupid amount of rain recently the water cleaned up extremely fast. I believe the very strong outgoing tides lately help contribute to the water cleaning up, as well as the solid mid day bite!

Pictured is repeat client Jeff (Red) with one of many in the 5 pound range caught on a Valley Hoo recently. Stay tuned for more. taken in Chandeleur Islands by @captkylejohnson

Appreciate all the calls and text offering for help. We will fine be it’s just a pain dealing with this. Sorry for everyone trying to get a hold me, but I’m dealing with this and not worried about calls/text right now. The amount of rain that came last night was insane. It just wouldn’t stop. We have sump pumps in the back yard and they just couldn’t keep up. My tackle shed also flooded and dealing with that today as well. Courtney and I were up all night doing the best we could to stop the water from coming in more. If this amount of rain would have been predicted I would have had some sand bags ready to help mitigate it, but I don’t think anyone saw this coming. I know a lot of other people got it worse than us, and we are thankful it didn’t get any worse than this! taken in Gulfport, Mississippi by @captkylejohnson

Started out snapper season right with ole Thomas who has been with me since the first year I started! He is one of those clients that always seems to slam the fish. Even if we get thrown crazy weather conditions he somehow makes it happen. Unfortunately this trip his wife Donna was not able to join us. We have a lot of funny stories over the years but my favorite is when I set up Donna to outfish Thomas 😂. We were on a hot trout bite and her setup was just a tad different. After she landed quite a few Thomas quickly caught on to what was going on. It was all in good fun. They are both very competitive, but I enjoyed the trash talking she gave him during that trip. I look forward to seeing them every year. As always Thomas did his thing this year. We had to hide out from a storm but he slammed some good snapper and a tom of really nice trout. See ya next time dude. by @captkylejohnson

Sometimes you gotta shoot the gap! Had a very small window to get in. Couldn’t get any video in the bad stuff, but we didn’t have a second to spare. Made it through a gap in the storm just in time! by @captkylejohnson

What a crazy weather year it’s been so far. We came out of the most windy March and April we have seen in years right into the wettest May we have seen in years. Now we are in the wettest and most windy June in years. We have been storm dodging, hiding from the wind, and dealing with dirty water. That hasn’t stopped us though! The bite has been great. I can’t imagine how good it would be if this weather would level out, but oh well. Gotta take it any way you can. Due to high winds and crazy storms coming the next few days I had to reschedule quite a few Chandy trips. Even though I’m getting some much needed “time off,” it’s hardly that. Now it’s time to catch up on stuff around the house, organize tackle, and fix broke stuff on the boat. Thank you to all my awesome clients for keeping me busy. I’ll take these days off to also catch up on posting to show y’all what my people have been doing! taken in Chandeleur Islands by @captkylejohnson
