𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐈𝐈 ❃ A Little Hope in the Lands Between

There is something about the final light of the day that always makes me feel a little sentimental.

For this set, we wanted to capture more than just the magic of Rogier's glintstone sorcery. We wanted to bring out a sense of wonder and hope, allowing the pictures to move gently between brighter, softer moments and deeper, more atmospheric ones.

I think that is one of the things I love most about fantasy photography: getting to take a character from a world we know and build a little moment around them that feels like it could exist within their story.

And getting to do that with Kaj made the experience all the more special.

I really appreciate how much care he have continued to put into Rogier over the years, from experimenting with wet felting for the hat to continuing to improve a cosplay that has been part of their journey for four years.

Thank you, Kaj, for such a lovely shoot, for sharing your creativity with me, and for trusting me to help bring your Rogier to life through my lens. ✨💙

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐈 ❃ The Little Details

One of my favourite things about cosplay is discovering all the little pieces of work and creativity that go into bringing a character to life.

For Kaj's Rogier, one of those details is the hat, which he wet felted themselves using natural brown wool — a technique he had never tried before!

And, in true practical cosplay fashion, they made it exactly wide enough to still fit through doors. 😂

I love details like this. The kind where you can see someone experimenting with a new technique, figuring things out along the way, and putting their own creativity into something that might otherwise seem like just another part of the costume.

The cosplay itself is made primarily from recycled materials and has been upgraded since its debut four years ago, which makes it even more special to photograph. There is so much care and history behind it.

Getting to work with Kaj and photograph all those details, while also building the atmosphere we wanted for Rogier, was such a lovely experience. ✨

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈 ❃ Rogier — Elden Ring

There is something wonderful about seeing a cosplay continue to grow and evolve over the years. ✨

Kaj's Rogier is made primarily from recycled materials, and after making its debut four years ago, the cosplay has received a few upgrades along the way. I always love seeing that kind of dedication to a costume — not just creating something once, but continuing to return to it, improve it, and bring new life into it.

For this set, we wanted to play with softer tones and create a gradual transition from lighter, more hopeful images into something a little darker, without losing that touch of magic that makes Rogier so special.

We returned to working with light to bring out the feeling of glintstone sorcery, using the beautiful last light of the day behind Bohus Fortress to help build that atmosphere.

Kaj was such a pleasure to work with, and I'm so happy we got to bring this little piece of the Lands Between to life together. 💙

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐈𝐈 ❃ Since My Teenage Years

I think one of the most wonderful things about being a photographer is eventually getting to work with characters that have meant something to you for years.

Dragon Age has been such a big part of my love for fantasy and storytelling. Its world, its history, and the way its characters are woven into the larger story have always kept me coming back.

I've spent years wondering about its mysteries, falling down lore rabbit holes, and watching far too many theory videos about where the story might go next. And while the original Dreadwolf storyline may never become the game we imagined, the excitement and love for that world are still very much there.

Getting to photograph Bethany, a character I've wanted to shoot since I was a teenager, feels like getting to bring a small part of that love into my own creative work.

And doing so together with Susanne, who was just as excited about building the atmosphere and making the images feel like they belonged in Thedas, made it all the more special.

Some photography dreams take a little longer to come true. This one was absolutely worth the wait. 💚

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐈 ❃ A Little Piece of Thedas

There is something special about photographing a character from a world you've spent so many hours exploring.

For Bethany, we wanted to move beyond simply recreating her appearance and instead capture a little of the atmosphere that makes Dragon Age feel so distinct.

The idea was to give the pictures a sense of the Fade — somewhere between a dream and a memory, where the world feels familiar but not quite real.

The green light, the soft haze, and the contrast between the dark stone of Bohus Fortress and the brighter openings around it became such an important part of that vision. I especially love how the light seems to almost spill into the scene in some of these pictures, giving Bethany that slightly otherworldly presence.

Susanne was such a joy to work with, and having someone who was just as invested in planning how to make the pictures feel like they belonged in the game world made the whole experience even better.

It's these kinds of collaborations that remind me why I love character photography so much. 💚

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈 ❃ Bethany Hawke — Dragon Age II

Some characters have been on your photography wishlist for so long that finally getting to photograph them feels a little surreal. 💚

Bethany Hawke has been one of those characters for me, ever since my teenage years.

Dragon Age has been one of my favourite game franchises for as long as I can remember. The lore, the characters, the choices, and the stories have always been something I've loved getting lost in. I've spent countless hours exploring its world, and probably just as many watching theory videos and discussing what might have been waiting for us in the next chapter.

I even fell quite far down the rabbit hole of theories surrounding the original Dreadwolf storyline before it was scrapped. 😂

So getting to finally photograph Bethany in her Grey Warden outfit, during Capture Saga at Bohus Fortress, was something genuinely special to me.

For this set, Susanne and I wanted to capture the feeling of being in the Fade — something dreamlike, strange, and just a little removed from reality. We leaned heavily into the greens to help bring that atmosphere into the pictures.

After all these years, getting to create a little piece of the world I've loved for so long felt like a dream of its own. ✨

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐈𝐈 ❃ "a line crossed is easily crossed again" ❃

One of my favourite things about working on creative projects like this is seeing how one idea can grow into something completely different. 🖤

This shoot with Trip took place before Nærcon, and some of the things Trip created for the photos ended up becoming part of their competition performance later that summer.

One of my favourite examples has to be the amazing hand-drawn sigil we created for the shoot. What started as part of the visual world we were building for these pictures eventually found its way onto the stage as well. ✨

Knowing that little pieces of what we created together became part of Trip’s performance makes this set feel even more special to me.

It’s always wonderful when photography can become a small part of something bigger — and I’m so happy I got to be there for the beginning of Iguin’s journey. 🖤

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐈 ❃ "wispered prayers will soon rise into a chorus of desperate pleas" ❃

There are some locations that feel like they were made for a character.

Bohus Fortress was definitely one of the best choices for Iguin. 🖤

The old stone walls, dark corners, cold atmosphere, and muddy ground inside the fortress created such a wonderfully eerie setting for Iguin. There was something about being surrounded by all that history and rough stone that made the whole shoot feel a little more mysterious.

Trip brought so much character into these pictures, and getting to explore the fortress together gave us plenty of opportunities to play with the atmosphere and make Iguin feel right at home.

It was cold, it was muddy, and somehow neither of us ended up looking like we had been rolling around in it. A successful day, if you ask me. 😂

But honestly? I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. 🖤
