Lakota East. Ice Protest + Walkout. 2/12/26.

Today my school held a walkout protest, and honestly it made me feel proud to be part of a generation that isn’t afraid to speak up. For so long, people have acted like teenagers don’t care about the world around them, but moments like this prove the opposite— we do care, and we’re willing to use our voices when it matters. Even if not everyone agrees on the same issues, it’s still important that we’re paying attention and taking action instead of staying silent.

Also, I think it’s just as important to actually do your research on politics and current events, because having a strong opinion means nothing if it isn’t backed up by facts and understanding. It’s easy to follow trends or repeat what other people say, but real change comes from being informed and thinking for yourself.

And while people are always going to disagree, no one deserves to be hated on just because of their political beliefs. This is America, and we are lucky to live in a place where we have the freedom to express ourselves and develop our own opinions. Whether someone leans one way or the other, everyone should be able to speak without being attacked, because respectful conversation is how we grow as individuals and as a country.
