Today was my 30 year highschool reunion. I went to the most notorious of private boys schools, Churchie. Where I suffered immensely from bullying and torment. I decided to return to the school for the first time since 1995 to help with closure and more importantly a big FUCK YOU by showing up and turning out!

Let me tell you, it helped. I did speak to some of the others who remembered me. One was a really great friend I had not thought of since I left school. Reminded me of some of the good times trauma had caused me to forget.
One interesting fact was the staff member from the school telling me of another trans "oldboy" like me but from 1982. That was the biggest eye-opener.

Can I just tell everyone, I nearly bailed at the start, and my daughter gave me a big hug to say it was ok, I cried, then laughed as my wife nopped out of the toilets hahaha. Also, she is the best most supportive person on the planet (even if she was having trauma fuelled high school flashbacks).

Happy National Coming Out Day - this my story 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 I also came out as a lesbian and I honestly couldn't be happier 😊 What's your story? There is no right way or right time to come out. My wish is that every trans and queer person finds a safe place to land amongst supportive loving people

@merriamwebster 's word of the year for 2025 was “SLOP”, which also says a lot about where 2026 has headed.

Design has split into two camps this year with one side pumping out AI-generated campaigns (and getting dragged for it) while the other side is doing the opposite. Human designers are treating their audiences by showing behind the scenes processes - the sketches, the rejected directions and the meaning behind final decisions, not just the finished file but the human instinct that guided it.

The same thing applies behind a camera. While a generative tool can serve you a poster that looks ok-ish at a glance (opinions vary), it can’t really understand what a unique community actually needs to feel seen. It can't feel the beating heart of a grass-roots event and reflect the diversity, strength and beauty of a shared moment.

Swipe through, and you'll see four projects built on exactly that kind of human decision-making. Brisbane Pride. Gold Coast Pride Collective. Transcend Australia. Gay Skate. Different briefs, different communities with a mix of photography, video and design in the actual delivery.

What's underneath all of these is the same thing, a human with lived experience and an artistic eye who understands both the client and the audience - not a prompt trying to guess both and throwing up tired, generic stereotypes, AI generated human images and questionable graphics

When you're commissioning creative work, has “who is actually making this" become part of how you decide? Or is that not really on your radar yet?

PRIDE IN THE M-F PLAZA

This project presents two photographs of a femme lesbian wearing playful outfits, roller skates, and rainbow pride accessories, set in stark contrast with police and security guards in a brightly lit shopping centre.

The retail setting with its polished surfaces and everyday ordinariness becomes an unexpected stage for protest, visibility, and queer presence during Loud & Proud Logan’s Pride In The Plaza project by Assorted Grains Inc

By placing a proud and visibly queer femme body in this commercially owned public space, I draw attention to the absurdity of needing to continue activism simply for LGBTIQA+SB community to exist safety and equitably in 2026.

The work responds to the ongoing right-wing backlash against LGBTQIA+ identities in Queensland, especially conservative transphobic government policy and public discourse. It explores the tension between resistance and celebration, where visibility and joy become survival tools as well as political acts.

Roller skating is central to this work: Gay Skate is both a grassroots community and a playful, powerful platform for activism. It brings us together to enjoy queer culture, reclaim our bodies and express ourselves through movement while building community cohesion and resilience.

Through humour, performance, and contradiction these images show that visible queer existence itself can be a form of defiance and they capture a moment during an unexpected era of regression and erosion of safety affecting the LGBTIQA+SB community.
