Yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of the greatest musician of all time’s magnum opus.

I wanted to post this yesterday- ended up getting sidetracked. I wrote some stuff to talk about how much I really really love this guy and this album. ‘Songs in the Key of Life’

I also wanted to post this to kick off the rollout for the first billy carbon project which comes somewhere around October 12th, 2026 or October 30th, 2026

I’m 20 years old today, a couple months away from my 21st birthday. It goes without saying that I was NOT there on September 28th, 1976. But due to its undeniable importance, there’s a real possibility I don’t even exist without it. I’ve been growing with this record since I was a toddler fading in and out of consciousness, looong before I knew it was important or significant to me.

As I’m drooling on some toy that shouldn’t have been in my mouth in the first place, scoring my first touchdown, experiencing my first kiss, getting my heart broken for the first time, graduating high school, or realizing I’m really no longer in Birmingham, there it was. Till this day it’s helped me create so many beautiful memories and songs- for I’ve been heavily affected by the artists inspired by the artists inspired by the artists inspired by the artist that made this album.

Back in the early to mid 70’s, time moved a lot slower and perhaps more painfully. I hear my parents and grandparents say their younger days were boring sometimes which I find funny, because we still get bored today with unlimited information to digest. The ‘70s were profound man. A heavy point for defining “Blackness” on our own terms, setting up Black culture, identity, and aesthetics as we know it today. Black folks were lowkey up, but definitely still fighting to keep it pushing after the Civil Rights movement. We got the first Black mayors in office, Marvin Gaye dropping masterpieces, Soul Train is huge, and the funk is really real. We got the Isley Brothers, Parliament-Funkadelic, Motown, Stax, Blaxploitation films, and the Black Panther Party was actually a thing (A HUGE TH by @carbonbilly

Alright so this is one of two of my songs I did live many many moons ago (7 months or so).

I haven’t posted anything in a long time, and I have a super sick mixtape I want to show people very soon-
