The Carbon Fury YD-X might be THAT chassis. 👀🔥

One of the most universal decks available. My build utilizes a Reve D RDX front end paired with a Yokomo YD2Z transmission.

Fast transitions, big angle, and it just looks planted doing it.

But I wanna hear from the drift community…

Part 2 of my YD-X HR 3 gear chassis build. The good and the bad of this set up!

3-gear: pros and cons

The biggest advantage is response. There is one less gear, bearing pair, and gear mesh to accelerate. When you stab the throttle during a transition, the motor can change drivetrain speed more quickly.

That tends to give you:

* Faster RPM pickup and sharper throttle response
* Quicker left-right transitions
* Better ability to punch the rear tires back up to speed
* A more direct connection between throttle input and rear-wheel behavior
* Less mechanical drivetrain loss

The downside is that this can make the car more reactive. A poorly tuned 3-gear car can break rear traction abruptly, feel nervous during throttle corrections, or require finer trigger control.

My YD-X rc drift chassis build aka “Mullet” part one! 3 gear transmission = pro-torque/anti-squat

With one fewer gear, there’s generally less rotating mass and one fewer gear mesh. That means less drivetrain inertia and friction. When you hit throttle, lift, or reapply power during a manji, the rear wheels can respond more immediately.

This is why a 3-gear can make a car feel lighter and more reactive, especially during rapid left-right transitions.

It doesn’t inherently create more motor power. Rather, less of the drivetrain is absorbing and smoothing the motor’s changes in speed.

Project Mullet is a certified ripper.

I’ve been wanting to build this for a while now and with the help of the @carbonfuryrc YD-X HR chassis, I’m finally able to do it.

- YD-X HR chassis
- RDX front bulkhead/steering
- Yokomo YD-2Z three gear transmission

I’ve only just begun tuning this (eye balled front alignment, adjusted rear camber) but man is it already impressive. Thank you CFRC for giving me the opportunity to build this with your product!
