@enso.atl was a great experience. We always try to dine at a new to us spot devouring delicious food. To celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary we stuck to sushi and had to try Enso Izakaya for their yakitori (grilled skewers). Thanks for the recommendation @vivianmyu 👍

We both had the YAKITORI OMAKASE:
Cucumber Wakame Salad
Miso Soup
Takoyaki
Tuna Avo Zuki*
8 Skewers Set (5 Meats, 2 Veggies, 1 Quail Egg)
Seasonal Sweets (Yuzu and Red Bean Ice Cream)
+
Both TOYOSU PLATTERS
8 Pieces Chef’s Selection Nigiri Set
+
12 Pieces Chef’s Selection Sashimi Set

The restaurant is in a very unassuming warehouse plaza but once you step inside you’re teleported into a modern Japanese izakaya with the smell of smoke from the open fire grill for the skewers greeting you right away. They had a nice corner booth all set up with a Happy Anniversary sign and candle lit for us. They brought out a special yuzu yogurt cheesecake on the house to celebrate our occasion ❤️ The food was delicious and the service was top notch! We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu 👍 If you’re ever in the Avondale Estates area def stop by to check them out!

Happy 10th Anniversary to my gorgeous, intelligent, compassionate, resilient, and endlessly supportive wife, @itsjustyu ❤️

A decade of marriage, more than 20 years of love, friendship, growth, laughter, memories, and building a life together. Somehow, after all these years, I continue to discover new things about you and fall in love with you in new ways.

I’ve had the privilege of watching you evolve, take on new challenges, embrace new endeavors, and step confidently into so many different roles — all while remaining the incredible woman I’ve always admired and loved.

When I look back at everything we’ve experienced together, I’m filled with gratitude for the journey and excitement for everything that’s still ahead of us. Here’s to the next decades of exploring more of this beautiful world, experiencing new cultures, tasting incredible cuisine, creating unforgettable memories, and conquering the goals and milestones that await us.

Most of all, here’s to continuing to grow together, laugh together, support each other, and choose each other — year after year, adventure after adventure.

10 years down, a lifetime to go. ❤️🥂

Happy Anniversary, my love. I wouldn’t want to do this life with anyone else.

Day 9 Cont’d. Marrakech, Morocco 🇲🇦

Delicious lunch sharing small plates atop yet another rooftop restaurant - Dardar. There are no shortages of rooftop options but plan to make reservations everywhere you go as they will almost all be busy especially during peak season.

After lunch we made our way over to the Jewish quarter. The Slat Al Azama or Lazama Synagogue was associated with Sephardic Jews who were expelled from Spain in 1492 (known as the Megorashim). The Mellah district in which the synagogue is located was not created until 1557. The building is still functioning as a synagogue today.

After cooling off at the Riad we headed out to dinner at Le Odette Rooftop Bar & Mezzé. We had to entire a very swanky hotel to gain access to the roof for this! Very fancy!

After dropping everyone off at the Riad I went on a side quest to try the local camel burger at Cafe Clock - which describes itself as cross-cultural cafe. When I arrived they handed me the menu and invited me up to the rooftop where there was a surprise life band performing traditional music for the program that night! I grabbed a solo table and enjoyed the show and had the best camel burger I’ve ever had! It was also my first 🤣 I wasn’t going to leave Morocco without trying camel meat.

Day 9 Last Riad to Bahia Palace - Marrakech, Morocco 🇲🇦

We had breakfast with our tour guide Omar from Intrepid and then checked out and walked our luggage across town to our last Riad of the trip - Riad 48 & Spa in Marrakech. It’s a 4 star hotel and was one of the nicest accommodations we had the entire trip. Every time we crossed a street I thought about how we looked like the iconic Beatles - Abbey Road record cover if they had rolling luggage 🤣

After settling in and a quick refresh we headed over to the Bahia Palace which is a stunning monument to Moroccan architecture and cultural history. Built in the late 19th century the palace showcases ornately decorated rooms, tranquil courtyards, and lush gardens. Handmade everything! Everywhere you look there are ornate details that are hand carved, painted, etc… it’s a sensory overload especially for photographic memories like mine.

Day 8 Cont’d. Le Jardin Secret Gardens & Walming Tour in Marrakech, Morocco 🇲🇦 with a rooftop dinner to wrap it all up!

We made our way through the winding alleyways to the Le Jardin Secret Gardens located inside the Riad Musée. After a beverage break inside the gardens we took a stroll around the Medina and our wrap up dinner of this @intrepidtravel tour was at a roof top restaurant just off the main square. The food was great but we enjoyed the company more. We would be parting ways with our travel family @bvmidds311 & @nessmidd as well as our guide Omar. The only thing left on the itinerary was breakfast at the Riad the following morning. Everyone would go their separate ways from there.

We still have a full day in Marrakech. Stay tuned for that video 👍

Day 8 Cont’d Amal Center Lunch + Marrakech, Morocco 🇲🇦

Lunch was delicious and unforgettable! The Amal Women’s Training Center is an amazing place. The dishes came out beautifully presented and they tasted even better! One of the best meals of the whole trip.

We then got dropped off at the closest location to our night’s stay the Riad Ilyan & Spa. The rooms are on the small side but that means the AC cools down the room quickly 🥶 after a short rest we teamed up with our Marrakech specialist tour guide and made our way through the winding alleyways.

Day 8 Ait Benhaddou to Marrakech, Morocco 🇲🇦

Started the day off with breakfast at our Riad then hopped on the bus and made it over towards the Atlas Mountains.

The first stop was a Women’s Cooperative
“AIT TAMNAT” for the production of argan oil products. It just so happened to be perched on top of a mountain ridgeline and had beautiful overlooks to the terraced farms below.

Next stop was Col Du Tichka standing at 2269 meters. It’s one of the highest points on the Atlas Mountains mountain pass we were on also known as the gateway to the Sahara.

We stopped at a couple other overlooks while making our way down the mountain towards Marrakech. The twisting and winding roads made for some fun timelapse clips. All the homes and buildings popping up out of the mountain sides were great surprises after each turn.

Day 7 Todra Gorge to Ait Benhaddou, Morocco 🇲🇦

Our first stop was the Dadès Gorge. It was very similar to the Todra Gorge but this one didn’t have any palm trees in it.

Then we stopped at Eau de Rose Artisanale Pure Naturelle Shop for all things rose water. Ait Sedrate Sahl Gharbia, Morocco is known for its rose water products.

We made our way over to Ouarzazate - The “no sound” city referring to the peaceful people who live here. We had lunch on the square here enjoying everything from pizza to wraps and couscous. Traditionally Friday is the day Moroccans eat couscous so I chose to do what the locals do. I was not let down. It was delicious.

Then we made it to the overlook to see Ait Benhaddou!

Aït Benhaddou is a historic ighrem or ksar (fortified village) along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakesh in Morocco. It is considered a great example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. There is no running water or electricity here.

After seeing our destination from the overlook we stopped in at our Riad for the night. Vivian practiced her Moroccan tea pouring skills once again! She’s getting better 👍

We then explored the city of Ait Benhaddou. Films like The Mummy (1999) / Gladiator (2000) / Alexander (2004) / Kingdom of Heaven (2005) / Babel (2006) and the latest one - The Odyssey (2026) have all been filmed here. TV shows like Game of Thrones and Outer Banks have also filmed here.

We then did some fire painting! Berber fire art, is a unique, traditional technique practiced by Amazigh artisans in Ait Benhaddou. Artists paint with natural ingredients like tea, saffron and indigo. When held over a flame, the painting comes to life. It used to be a way to send secret messages in the past.

We made our way back to the Riad for dinner. Tonight we had the best kefta tajine of the trip! It was paired with a vegetarian tajine at the middle of the table. We started with a fresh sales and wrapped up the meal with fresh fruits.

Day 6 Cont’d. Gîte Auberge El Khorbat (Museum) & Restaurant El Khorbat - Morocco 🇲🇦

El Khorbat Oujdid is a ksar (a fortified village) near the Moroccan town of Tinejdad (about 50 km from Tinghir). This ksar was built in 1860 and is still inhabited. The ksar was completely built with rammed earth, it is walled and has a number of towers. The complex has a main alley and a number of sideways which results in a more or less straight street pattern. The houses were built over the alleys so the alleys are cool. We stopped in at the restaurant to place our lunch orders then proceeded to the nearby museum to learn more about this area. After the museum we returned to an amazing meal!

Then we made it over to the Todra Valley & Gorge area where it was very nice and cool compared to where we came from. We stopped at a couple overlooks to take in the impressive oasis located inside the mountain ranges. After getting dropped off at our hotel for check-in we took a little rest and then went on a nice leisurely hike through farmlands below up to the Todra Gorge where we would be picked up via van to come back to the hotel for dinner.

In the oasis and farmlands you’ll find Palm trees used to make dates. Figs, almonds, cashews, corn, pomegranate, olives, and all sorts of fruiting trees and vegetables. We even made some 4 legged friends along the way.

Up at the gorge we saw families and friends enjoying their evenings on the stream cooking, playing instruments, drinking tea, and even riding their horses. There are also lots of people climbing the walls!

Dinner was an assortment of tajines, skewered meats and some melon for dessert and of course Moroccan Tea!

Day 6 Sahara Desert to Erfoud, Morocco 🇲🇦

Started the morning off with a short solo hike back up the dunes to enjoy the sunrise. I figured it’d be the last time in a long time before I’m back in the Sahara Desert so why not get up a little early and take in the sunrise?

It was so peaceful and quiet. The temps were moderate and tolerable until the sun came up 🤣 it hit like a literal heat wave!

After breakfast we packed up and got back in the van and went to a marble manufacturer that also deals in fossils and minerals. It was cool to learn how so many prehistoric creatures are found in this area as it was mostly ocean millions and millions of years ago. The show room was overwhelming but we did manage to come home with some great souvenirs.

Our next stop was these series of underground canals. Up until 1940 the water of the mountains came in through these man made tunnels directing the water to the Oasis. There are many rows of these tunnels. Each row is owned by a different family. They terminated at a communal area before the oasis where the water was distributed amongst the families. Nowadays it is dry and they use modern hydraulic water pumps to get water from the mountains to the Oasis.

Day 5 Cont’d. Sahara Desert, Morocco 🇲🇦
🐪 🐫 🐪 🐫

The most anticipated portion of this trip! The Sahara Desert and our camel ride up into the dunes for sunset!

First off our accommodations are excellent! These huts have running water (toilet/sink/shower), electricity, and air conditioning! We spent the first hour and a half cooling our huts down as it was 105 degrees upon arrival and at midnight it’s still over 90 degrees.

The camel ride has been a bucket list item for lots of us! It was an unforgettable experience. The camels were so calm and behaved so well for all of us. Not much more to say other than look at the pictures and video. Crazy only a few months ago we summited Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and today we stand on top of sand dunes in the Sahara Desert!

Day 5 Fes - Sahara Desert, Morocco 🇲🇦

On this day we embarked on a 9 hour drive from the northern city of Fes to the Southeast tip of Morocco where the sand dunes begin. We would pass through the Atlas Mountains, drive through thick cedar forests, and even see some native Barbary macaque monkeys of the region.

We stopped at an old Swiss town for coffee and a break. We were surrounded by street dogs here and we loved every minute of it. They walked with us from the van all the way to the cafe we stopped at.

We enjoyed rabbit tajine about halfway through the drive. It was surprisingly tender and delicious. We knew we had to order it as we hadn’t seen it on the menu anywhere prior to this stop.

Our last stop was at a corner store to load up on waters and snack on some ice cream. It was 105 degrees out at the time 🤣 Just a few moments later we arrived at our accommodations. More details on the next post.
