statement: "During the 2020 pandemic I started exploring with the cardboard that was coming into our home from various deliveries. An ongoing series of cardboard assemblages was born from that creative play. Long inspired by quilt making, my assembly process is intuitive and improvisational and I allow the nature of the materials that I work with to help shape the direction of the finished artwork. When I was creating this piece, I was considering the way in which we are slowly shaped by individuals in our life. The title, Aggregate, reflects how we are made up of these influences that we collect over the years."

My grandma once told me that her mother called her a “little firecracker” because her birthday was so close to the 4th of July. I think she lived up to that nickname. Even at 96 years old she was as sharp and funny and candid as ever. She was a human calculator for NASA, gave so much of her time to helping others, and loved a good hot fudge sundae. I was lucky to have 41 years with her, but it certainly doesn’t feel like enough 🤍 by @cardboardsea

This one is late summer. Early morning in the garden and a bit of chill in the air. Red tomatoes on the vine. Goldfinches flitting from flower to flower foraging ripened seeds.

I’m barely scraping the surface of all that I want to do while I’m away on a self-created artist residency of sorts. This exploration was not part of the plan and I guess that’s the whole point, isn’t it? I have so many thoughts and feelings about the luxury of being away from responsibilities and being able to spend time in this place that is so steeped in artistic history. Every time I am here it truly feels like a home away from home. I’ll gather my words on that another day.

This whole piece started when I spotted this tomato box in the checkout line at the grocery store, so thank you @sunflower___market ✌🏻
