The opening parade for Carnaval ! Just a small sampling! The theme was long live the QUEEN and honestly I was blown away by the pageantry as well as the representation and messaging! From floats honoring female inventors and scientists such as Jane Goodall and Marie Curie (depicted in their elder years, no less), to a representation of female rage, to a plea for women to use their voices to speak out, along with a lot glamour and spectacle - VIVE LA REINE ! 👑 (P.S. Notice the Statue of Liberty STUMBLING IN THE 10th slide!! Also the woman lifting her dress in the 5th slide is a folk hero called Nissa la Bella who was a brawny washwoman and fishmonger and when the Turks tried to invade Nice in the 15th c. it is said she confronted them, grabbed their flag and wiped her ass with it, startling them to the point that they retreated 💪😆) by @cardiffwalker

Big life changes afoot!

Incredible benefit show for the LA Fires - fronted by Phantom Planet and Local Natives with so many amazing LA artists! It was beyond moving when they all joined on stage to sing this - chills, tears, all the feels!

My entire life, being a Californian has been such a strong part of my identity. Born in Sacramento and living in the Bay Area (Orinda) when we moved to Chicago at age 8, I never acclimated to it - the place or the weather! All I could do was dream of getting back to The Golden State. It wasn't the sight of it, as much as it was the *feel.* I finally made my way back (with detours in Dodge City, KS, Hot Springs, AR, and Phoenix, AZ 😅) at age 20. I transferred to San Diego State and, haven't left since! After college, I moved to San Francisco, back out to the East Bay, back out to the Sacramento area, back to San Diego/Encinitas and finally, LA - Venice/Santa Monica. I love this state to my very soul and after that time in the Midwest, I've never, ever taken for granted living here! The much-maligned city of Los Angeles has been my favorite city I've ever lived in (IYKYK)! The vibrancy, the creativity, the diversity, the very definition of "live and let live" - everything feels possible in the City of Angels. So it is with a heavy heart that for a multitude of reason, I'll be moving to the funky, arty town of Ashland, Oregon - in 10 days!!! House is sold, new lease is signed, it's a new adventure in the Rogue Valley, with my son Thomas and the Frenchies in tow! The move is in no small part a result of my BFFs (Southern California transplants themselves) moving from the Portland area to buy a "hobby farm" in nearby Jacksonville/Medford. When you get to a certain point in life, you want to prioritize being around the best people.💕

With the California border only 30 minutes away, I think I can do this! In any case, wish me luck!❤️ taken in Santa Monica, California by @cardiffwalker

So incredibly overwhelming to finally make it inside Notre Dame!🙏😭 Absolutely magnifique!! I was overcome with emotion several times, including during the mass I was lucky enough to attend! I've visited Notre Dame on at least 15 other Paris trips and have always felt a connection to this place; at the same time, it seemed to have a coldness/severity to it. The restoration has given it so much warmth and light - there is such a radiating feeling of love and joy inside - those words don't really cover it, but it will stay with me!

Although I landed the day of the reopening (12/7) and despite showing up many times, I didn't make it inside until Monday (12/16). It was well worth the effort and the wait, and of course I had many adventures in Paris in between! Paris, my Love! 🇫🇷💙
