"Beyond immediate rescue and relief needs, communities may face challenges related to shelter and food, access to safe water, and health services in the coming days. We are concerned about women and children, elderly people and people with disabilities and marginalised groups."

Earlier today, CARE Nepal Country Director Mona Sherpa spoke to ABC News about the floods which surged down the Bhote Koshi River yesterday, devastating communities in Nepal.

The team are preparing to mobilise emergency relief, including shelter, hygiene, and dignity kits, for affected families as needs are confirmed.

CARE Australia has now launched an emergency appeal to provide support for those affected by the floods in the coming days, weeks and months.

Who is CARE Australia? 🧡

We are part of a global network who work alongside communities to help defeat poverty and social inequality.

We’ve partnered with communities around the world to support women and girls, respond to humanitarian crisis, and help create lasting change. And we’ve been active in Australia for nearly 40 years!

Today, our work is guided by simply believing that the people closest to the challenges are closest to the solutions.

Which is why we work alongside local organisations and leaders in supporting communities to determine their own futures and build safer, stronger and more resilient lives.

We believe that change starts with local leadership.

Follow us to meet the women, communities and local leaders creating lasting change around the world. 🌏

Today is World Food Day, a day to recognise how knowledge, innovation and resilience can help strengthen food systems and communities around the world.

In Papua New Guinea, Fokilo learned how to preserve locally grown bananas, cassava and sweet potatoes through CARE-supported Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) training. These new skills helped her strengthen her family's food supply, start a small business and build a more secure future for her children.

Fokilo's story reminds us that food security is about more than having enough food today. Knowledge, opportunity and access to resources can help people build more resilient futures for themselves, their families and their communities.

To our supporters, thank you 🧡

Throughout September, we shared stories about maternal health and the reality that every two minutes, a woman dies from preventable complications during pregnancy or childbirth.

You helped make a difference. Your support can help more women access skilled midwives, safe health clinics and the care they need to bring their babies safely into the world.

Every donation helps protect two lives: a mother and her baby. That's the impact you've helped create, and we're incredibly grateful for your kindness and generosity.

From all of us at CARE Australia, thank you for standing with mothers, babies and communities around the world.

Disclaimer: These are real stories, filmed by CARE teams.

Women around the world are leading change, supporting one another and creating solutions in their communities.

Yet many are facing growing challenges, from food insecurity and drought to flooding and water shortages.

CARE's latest Women Respond 2025 report shares insights from 3,560 women across Burundi, Colombia, Ethiopia, Mali, Niger, Syria and Vietnam, revealing how women are navigating crisis and uncertainty in their communities.

The findings are clear: women are already driving solutions, but they need greater support to continue building resilient communities.

More than 80% of women who were aware of funding cuts said they were seeing negative impacts on local economies, health services and community support systems.

Swipe through to hear what women told us.

"We don't have any pencils or paper. So we use sticks to write. My favourite thing is to write my name in the sand."

Today, on International Day of the Girl, we celebrate girls like Halima and Sumaya, and girls everywhere whose strength, determination and potential are an inspiration to us all.

At CARE, we work alongside girls, families and communities to help create opportunities for girls to learn, lead and thrive 🧡

Khadra's story is heartbreakingly common.

She nearly died giving birth to her daughter Bushra in a displacement camp near Dhahar, Somalia.

Severely malnourished and struggling to survive, Khadra and her baby received lifesaving care at a nearby CARE health clinic. The clinic also helped two of her children recover from severe malnutrition.

Now, following funding cuts, that clinic has closed.

For families already facing hunger, displacement and poverty, losing access to healthcare can have devastating consequences.

"Without this health facility, there is no life," says Khadra.

64 million people missed out on humanitarian aid last year. (Source: The Guardian, September 2026)

Climate change, conflict and poverty are putting growing pressure on communities around the world. As humanitarian needs increase, coordination between local organisations, governments and aid agencies has never been more important.

At CARE Australia, we work alongside trusted local partners and communities to help ensure support reaches people affected by crisis.

We believe effective humanitarian action is a shared effort, where local knowledge, community leadership and global expertise come together to make every resource count.

Earlier this month, CARE’s #MekongElevate program brought together colleagues, researchers and partners from Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Australia in Phnom Penh for a four-day Research Inception and Partnership Workshop.

Participants of the workshop shared expertise, strengthened partnerships, and helped shape research that will support climate-smart agriculture and address climate-related loss and damage among ethnic minority communities across the Mekong region.

The workshop also explored how gender equality, disability and social inclusion, and safeguarding can be embedded throughout the research process, while ensuring evidence and learning help drive practical action for climate resilience.

A big thank you to the team at @uts.isf and all participants for their knowledge, collaboration and commitment.

MekongElevate is funded by the Australian Government @dfat through the Mekong-Australia Partnership and implemented by @careincambodia, @carelaopdr @careinvietnam

One month after the devastating floods swept through Nepal, thousands of families are still facing displacement, damaged services and uncertainty about what comes next.

Around 1.6 million people have been affected, more than 8,000 remain displaced, and approximately 84,000 people require emergency water, sanitation and hygiene support.

CARE Nepal and local partners have reached 2,884 people with assistance including emergency supplies, food, solar lights, cooking equipment and psychosocial support. But recovery will take time, and families continue to need shelter, safe water, livelihood support and protection services.
