Part 2: Emotional Guardian

🦋knowing the right questions to ask and also knowing when talking may not get to the heart of it
🦋ability to know which behaviors could show as a warning and when they cross that line
🦋creating an emotional wellness checklist with each other and your support circle- before the baby arrives
🦋having your professional resources gathered beforehand and knowing when to use them (therapist, care/medical team, support groups, etc)

Partners main job is to support the birthing person. AND partners need support THEMSELVES for this role.

"The baby blues" isn't just about normal hormonal shifts. Knowing the signs and how to support the birthing persons mental and emotional health can literally save lives. In a lot of birth prep classes the postpartum part is usually quick and limited. And I get it, most moms and birthing parents are SO focused on the big day.

What if we gave more attention and energy to postpartum? What if we spent time in conversations with postpartum educators and doulas around what to TRULY expect in the 4th trimester.

As your virtual postpartum doula bestie I GOT U

Here are 5 possible truths you were (probably) never warned about postpartum:

🐕 You may resent your dog (sensory overload, need to still take care of them in the midst of newborn care)
🦋 Identity shift: maiden to mother, and the grief that comes with it
🩺 The six-week checkup is often too late and too narrow
🤝 You'll need way more support than you think
🍼 Feeding can be hard, painful, and emotional. As natural and primal as breastfeeding can be, doesn't mean there isn't a learning curve to it.

Planning for your postpartum adventure is CRUICAL to your mental, emotional, and physical health. A little planning can go a long way. Postpartum planning shouldn't be the birth plans co-star. It needs a stage of it own!

As your virtual postpartum doula we uncover, plan for, and face all these things and more, together.

Postpartum care IS NOT a luxury, it is a necessity.

A necessity for keeping people alive, for allowing mothers and families to thrive and not just survive, for creating the matriarchal society we all deeply need and deserve.

Your postpartum plan NEEDS to be just as important as your birth plan. Full stop.

People need to be educated on how we can actually be helpful once the baby arrives. AND new moms need to practice asking for help and asking for the right kind of help. The deeply nourishing and supportive kind.

What is the person who just gave birth wasn't quickly dismissed and pushed to the side lines? What if postpartum was taken SERIOUSLY? How would the world change if the mother-baby dyad was protected and uplifted?

Should we find out together?

Well? Did you guess the reductive common one liner said to moms who just had a baby??

The one that shuts your story down, that leaves no room for your experience, that minimizes the health and well being of the birthing person?

Yup- you guessed it!!

"A healthy baby is all that matters" 🙄

Yes of course we want a healthy baby AND what if we also prioritized moms birthing experience, and deeply supported her in the 4th trimester.

Regardless of people's good intentions telling you that the only thing that matters from your birthing experience is if your baby came out healthy or not, is frankly flaming hot trash if you ask me. And an EXTRMELY dangerous stance.
Have we not learned anything about the postpartum mental health crisis going on??

As your postpartum doula I WANT to hear your story, I want to hold your joy and pain with you. There is no right way to do birth.

Your experience MATTERS, just as much as your healthy baby does.

So, if you just had a baby..

Or you're still pregnant, let's plan your supportive postpartum TOGETHER :)

What would it be like???

If we just took a moment and truly felt into it. Truly imagined how prioritizing the birthing person and their experience, nourishing and supporting women and moms, and truly showing up for new families...

If we gave attention and energy to what the days will look like AFTER the baby has arrived.

Prioritizing a thriving postpartum looks like:

🦋 protecting the mother-baby dyad
🦋 rest and healing
🦋 solid support team
🦋 systems in place
🦋 postpartum plan prepped BEFORE the baby arrives

How could this change the fabric of our world? How could this change the trajectory of the future?

Let's put flesh to our biggest and wildest dreams. Our hearts burning desires. Let's do it for the moms, let's do it for the kids, let's do it for the health of our planet.

As your postpartum doula I want to to find out what this could look like, in a tangible, real life way. I want to help YOU prepare for your thriving postpartum season. Let's bring forth the matriarchy, together!
