9/11 didn't just change security lines it changed how the world thinks about resilience. Companies stopped treating "what if everything breaks" as a hypothetical and started building for it. Careers work the same way: the people who get remembered aren't the ones who never hit turbulence, they're the ones who show up, adapt, and keep moving when things go sideways. Titles don't build resilience reps do. Every setback you actually push through is training data for the next one. Build your network before you need it, treat failure as feedback instead of a verdict, and take initiative when no one's assigning it that's the stuff that actually gets remembered.

Developing a professional network can be hard work but it's rewarding in so many ways. Tools like LinkedIn make it easier to connect friends, school mates, colleagues and interesting people. Building a network should not be seen a hassle. Those people that naturally connect will understand this but anyone can do it.

Relationships at all levels require investment and curation. Connect with the people in the office, go to that event that's not mandatory and connect as much as possible to build the networking skills you need.

Top 3 tips for Friday.
1. A great network is not a small closed cohort, it's a wide church of people from varying background, ages and skills.
2. Make the effort to reach out, book that coffee, make that call and comment on that linkedin post to keep relevant.
3. Help others with no expectations of pay back. Selfless help to others, especially in times of need like job uncertainty will be remembered.

So give it a go, reach out via linked, email or a phone call to that person you met a conference, a colleague on the other side of the office.
