This BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month, we recognize the unique strengths and challenges that Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) face when it comes to mental health.

Mental health is influenced by many factors, including our culture, communities and experiences. Recognizing these influences can help us better understand ourselves and one another, while reminding us that support looks different for everyone and it’s okay to ask for help.

We’re proud to share that CareOregon President and CEO Eric C. Hunter has been named chair of the 2027 Oregon and SW Washington Heart Walks.

In this role, Eric will help bring together local organizations, leaders and employees to expand CPR awareness, support lifesaving research and improve heart health across our region.

9 out of 10 people who experience cardiac arrest outside a hospital do not survive and more than half don't receive CPR from a bystander. Immediate CPR can double or triple a person's chance of survival, making CPR education and readiness critical for community health.

The Portland and Vancouver Heart Walks will take place in May and June 2027, and we look forward to bringing our community together to join the nation of lifesavers!

After years of health challenges and limited mobility, Annette believed some everyday tasks were no longer possible.

“Everyone in Jackson County knows someone covered by JCC. Our members are your coworkers, friends, neighbors, the person who cuts your hair and the kid who sits next to your child in class,” said JCC Medical Director, Leona O’Keefe, MD.

When people have access to preventive care, behavioral health services and treatment for chronic conditions, they stay healthier, can support their families and contribute to their community. Our Tribal Care Coordination team supports American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) members enrolled in the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) with personalized care that respects Native cultures, community and individual needs.

Tribal Care Coordinators help make it easier to access health services, connect to community resources and navigate your benefits. They build trust and strong relationships, making sure that AI/AN members feel comfortable and confident about their health.

When Debbie was on the verge of losing her housing, she didn’t just need resources; she needed someone to provide support navigating the systems and services to keep her home.

Through our partnership with @ourjustfuture, Debbie connected with Angel, a Traditional Health Worker (THW) and peer support specialist who helped her access home care services, connect with a therapist and doctor, and maintain stable housing for herself and her daughter.

Our Just Future is one of 12 organizations in CareOregon’s THW network. Together, we’re investing in community-rooted, culturally responsive care that helps members navigate complex systems, access essential resources and improve their overall well-being.
